Hi all!
Hello Simon!I'm sorry for the delayed reply,I've been busy
.
Well,I like the way you're thinking about mixing colors, but you shouldn't start like this.Imagine and prepare the real life color the shirt is supposed to be.This is not to be your basic color, but one of your last (hi)ghlights. For example Bronzed Flesh and Lemon Yellow=mix 1(leave purple aside for a while).
later choose colors to make it darker(like purple and burnt umber and a little black).Your Revolutionary is not supposed to be dressed in silk or something,so you're supposed to give the look of a flat cheap shirt.Make this darker mix=mix 2 and apply it to the shirt until it fully covers the areas. This is your basic color and should not be transparent!
Start applying the lights.Add more and more mix 1 to the mix 2 until you reach pure mix 1.
Continue applying the highlights.First add Lemon Yellow to mix 1 and apply it=mix 3.Later add to mix 3 some of a lighter Flesh and apply it.
Finaly add to mix 1 some white and apply it.Of course, you may apply twice some of these mixes and you may add more submixes to blend the color, but this is up to you!Generally try to avoid extremes
.
Go on and give the shadows.Add to mix 2 some dark purple and apply it=mix 4.Later add to mix 2 some burned umber and apply it=mix5.Later add to mix 4 some mix 5 and apply it.Finaly add to mix 1 some black and apply it.
Now make an ultra-thinned version of mix 2(1 part mix 2 to 11 parts water)and pass the entire shirt, once you unload very well your brush on a cloth!Repeat this process until your colors on the shirt look well-blended.
Hope I helped my friend!
Good luck and show us what you've done!
Cheerz!
