Steve - Hi. Yes removed the the patch after learning they didn't have them and looking for a place to put the medical pack. On to the back today after some remedial work to the front of the jacket. Hunkering down for some expected snow on Sunday - at least the light should be good for painting.
Nap - I've never found the need for a wet palette, I suppose because working wet-on-wet means you have to work quickly. I do waste paint when it does dry, but not so much as you'd think. It's all a matter of what works for you after all.
First job today was to adjust the painting of the folds on the left breast of the jacket, then to paint the back. The latter looks a bit boring, but as it's not the focus of attention, it doesn't really matter. I then painted the medical pack and attached it to the bandolier strap - it looked too bulky placed anywhere else, and helps add interest where it is. Finally, I painted and attached the smoke grenade, using a Peddinghaus decal for the lettering (I can't hand-paint lettering to save my life).
Great progress and the backpack does look good, which is a great achievement as it is wavy without a great deal of deep drapery to assist in the painting.
The medipack looks really too big to be attached to the helmet, much better where it is.
Have a good day on the last bit before the weather and light changes
Morning Steve. On the home run now. I'm going to attempt to put the ace of spades insignia under the helmet netting, but I'm not hopeful of pulling it off - we'll see. The straps should be easy enough to do, and I've also realised that they've included the cricket clicker, which will be suspended with string around his neck. Dodgy light today.
Fine update pics , the work on the jacket has paid off well , do like the decal use on that grenade and your positioning of the field dressing .....logical to me ...I have a UK para bust with it hanging from epaulette as well
The backpack looks good as well
Look forward to seeing the helmet and the net painting on it ...you'll be fine with the ace of spades
Do you use the same base for your busts ( might be verlinden ? )
On to the helmet today, and I didn't even attempt the ace of spades insignia - the weave of the camo net was far to tight at the sides and I just don't have the skill or patience. As it was, I tried to be too clever painting the helmet before resorting to some good old dry-brushing. Once the helmet was in place it was on to the straps, which weren't to tricky, then finally the cricket clicker with string made from copper wire.
You always do a good job Pierre.I personally like the tones you achieve.I sure wish we could see you at a show and share a coffee and figure natter.
Watch out for the beast of the east 2.
Ricardo Pakka.
Ricardo - Pleased that you like him. A figure chat would be lovely, but as you know, I've never been to a show - social anxiety and all that. Looking forward to the arctic conditions.
Nap - Thank you. The clicker was separate in the box - took me a while to realise what it was.
