Excellent sculpting, whats not to like. I think it's taken from a popular picture but does anyone know why he's wearing two watches, I'll guess one showing German time and the other Russian. I know that's just gotta be wrong. :D

Cheers Ken

Yabba dabba doooooo,

pure awesomeness for those that love this period, I want one for sure and know so many that will do too

I think its beautifully done, but I get this uneasy feeling that I am fawning over a Wehrmacht recruiting poster. I mean, the guy is the prototypical blond, blue eyed Aryan in a conquerers pose.
I would like to know the story behind the 2 watches.

This is my period,I really love this subject but this is not doing it for me.

Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful sculpt and paint job, however it's just a tad too "clean" almost poster like as already metioned.

I'd really love Youngs to do a 200mm or 120mm full figure, I think they would sell very well.

hello
i LIKE IT.and in 1940 during the conquest of france the VT-VERFÜGUNGSTRUPPE DER ALLEGEMEINEN SS was photographed.and on the pics you see many of such blond handsome guys like this one.simply because at this date the war was new and still many young good looking soldiers where alive.and the photographer took the best lookings for their pics.why not.
and the two watches are easy.he has taken an nice watch from an fallen foe.and he will sent it home as soon time permitts.in all war warbooty was an common thing.when one things to the many liberated wehrmacht and ss gear which found it place to the states.
for my taste an second full arm would have created more balance but one could try to sculpt one.
for me i like it.on an bust one looks for an nice face.
and when one can life with odd crusaders fantasy vikings or wrong helmets on knight busts ect why one should not accept an handsome german.
iam sure the sculptur did not want to make an statement to the german übermensch.but it seems still an problem if an bust gets to blond and handsome one might get entangled in the problematics one brings in with all the stories told after the war.
even if one must admitt that germans where the smartest soldiers of their time.therefore they are so prominent in figures.simply because they look so fine with their uniforms and decorations
i say YES and please more of it.i think its the flawless painting which brings out this fair look.if one is terryfied that the guy gets to arrian simply paint him with brown hair.

Not trying to shed unflattering light on any of the obvious heroes in our hobby, but to criticize Ebroin's latest as being too handsome or not naturalistic, one can't help but reveal her true evaluations on the majority of outputs from the same manufacturer, where handsomeness has no limit, and many faces alledgely "look the same".

The reason being, Ebroin strikes quite the right balance between "pretty boys" and actual human faces, and to me the best balance among artists who just happen to crave pretty ones. Please note that most of his face sculpts never feel reduced or "plastic", while at the same time being utterly attractive and manly. This has got to be a celebrated artistic power, if a little too mainstream for some tastes.

Please also factor in the widely known style and method of the box art provider when assessing this new release. Again a celebrated presence in the hobby. Trying to be as neutral as I can, I will just say this: see beneath the paints, imagine how different the bust would look from different hands, and how that would affect your rating.

As for the notion of "German WW2" glorification, um, there could be a point. I suppose this is a justified concern, which in turn harms the justification of all energy involved in the making of what will be a sweet commercial success anyway.

...maybe stolen from a Russian dead soldier...
Great bust a work of art.

This one feels a little different than other Young's busts.
I think the neck is a bit too thick, but it's beautifully done
nevertheless. As for the facial features and what not, it's
a good looking face. Who wants to buy a figure with an
ugly face? unless it's a pirate. ;)

I don't see a point to criticize how it's painted when
it's just a boxart of unpainted resin bust.

A very nicely sculpted and painted piece, as all young miniatures are. under other artist's brush we'll have many different results, so to critise this box top work is a little premature. well done all. Les

I for one wasn't criticizing anyone. I think Ebroin is one of the best at what he does, and the figure is nicely painted. I just don't go for any figs that look as if they are based on a posed photo from a propaganda poster, or something thats a bit cliché. I don't like the Alpine 1/16th figure of the German infantry officer because I think it's a bit "over the top", being overly posed and dramatic. Thats not to say its not well sculpted and painted. Same with this one. Its beautifully sculpted and painted, but when I see it, this is what it reminds me of:
signalsmall.jpg

and figures that look as if they are based on a posed photo don't appeal as much to me, I like them as if they are in a more natural and "in the moment" Just a personal opinion, and we know what those are like, but its not slamming the sculptor or the painter, just commenting the subject matter.

Well then, at least now we all know what you like and don't like in a figure... ;)
I think this figure is designed to be just that, as if it's right off a propaganda magazine cover.

hello Jason
its always interesting to see how differenet figure people tackle this hobby.i fully understand your points.for me its the aspect historical accuracy.
i like people which dare to say their oppinion clear, because this world is fiull with agreemnets and the whish not to stand for the own oppinion.
one makes oneself not the most wanted person but at least one which has its oppinion.life is to short for to much commitment
to be honest i might think that it is often an question of nationality.i like here the boldness and pathetic stance maybe because iam GERMAN myself,i am not sure if i would feel the same in an US or russian figure.
so maybe if this would be an us para it would stir the emotions of the americans more and the germans would mutter to pathetic....only an guess
i for my taste like the smart uniform as the bling of decorations and this one finds in prussian military to an high degree
but again i would be very happy if not always crits would be taken as offense.than only an matter of taste.
cheers
I THINK ITS NOT TO GOOD TO STATE THAT PEOPLE WHICH DARE TO CRITICE THE WORKS OF SCULPTURES ARE AFTER TO HARM THE REPUTATIONS OF THOSE:
in an thread over an bust i had an unpleaseant experiance with an sculptur of such an thing, which brings me to the point to do without them in future..i see it this way if one shows something here one should be open for ALL comments.i never have seen an figure which all people where fond on.
so the people which give their real impressions should not always be brought to the point, they are after to harm the feeling of the artist which has done it.oncemore because those gentlemen do it for their living and not as gift.so i see it as product.and i see no reason why one may critize an toaster in regards to design but not an figure.for me an product which is offered for sale is an product.so i see no reason why one must then be quite or overpleseant if one does not like it. ....when toasters are tested nobody would think on such things but on figures we all are so oversensible?i have cheased on lots of things to post anything because i lost interest in always be the bad arse.
only an guess and surely one some might again have problems with.well may it be.
i posted this because its already again going in an direction, that people which do not like the figure are after to harass the sculptur..WHICH IS SURELY NOT THE CASE.
cheers

Markus,
I agree with you totally. In a nutshell, I critique the product (in this case, the figure) not necessarily the person or company that created it. We all know that Young (and since I mentioned them, Alpine) puts out beautiful figs of many varieties, so my opinion on one of them in no way reflects my opinion on all of them. Simply because this one doesn't float my boat, doesn't mean there aren't 10 other Young busts I would love to have and the same holds true for Alpine.
Cheers
Jason
BTW, I would love to see the MG-34 from this fig available separately

I think its okay, I agree with pinsel that young blonde german landsers did exist, I have seen the photo this is based on , i think it is a long line of dusty marching german infantry during the starting days of op barbbarossa

I will buy it, if only in the hope that young may one day release a ww2 british Desert rat or army commando with a bren gun in a similair vein.Or a soviet Sniper

I have to say that it is well sculpted and I would paint him as shown , blond hair etc

Its not youngs best, but with the exception of Carl reids ace ww1 Gordon highlanders they are still the best on the market

Just wanted to add my two euros worth

bye :)
