Hi all, I'm back on the round figures now. This one is a gladiator from young. I'm trying to go for realism on this one and wanted to know how you think it's going. I have only worked on the face at the moment and his right side is just about where I think it should be, more blending to do on the left side yet. It's all acrylics.
Feel free to critique.

Andrew.

Looking good Andrew.
I have my doubts about the cheek color ( to pinky/purple) . But i think i must wait untill you blocked in the beard to give the final comment on it.

Marc

Nice start andrew, looking forward to seeing how this one completed,i love gladiators and i love this bust as well,(y)

Brian

Thanks guys, I did some more work.
It felt like a day where I took three steps forward and two steps back, a little frustrating. Here is where he is at tonight, more work on the face done, still need to fix up the hair line, forehead and beard but it's getting there slowly. Let me know what you think.

Andrew

Andrew, first thing I think you might want to do is re-examine your flesh mixes - compare your fingertips with the painted skin as a starting point :)

The highlighting/shading is coming along nicely in the second set of pics, but just to check will you be highlighting the forehead and the top of the head more?

Einion

Thanks Carl.
Thanks Einion, top of the head and forehead still is just roughed out. I'm also testing out a different skin tone on this one, just for practice. I'm going for a Polynesian or Pacific Islander skin tone. I know it doesn't fit the figure at all but it's more of a practice exercise for me, I haven't done anything other than Caucasian skin tones so far. Not sure I have quite hit the mark with it though.

A little more refinement on the face and top of the head today, also added some pacific island style tattoos just for something to do. Don't worry all those historically accurate fans he won't stay this way, I just thought it was a nice blank canvas of a bust to try out some new skin tones and threw on some tattoos for practice.

Andrew,
Let the tattoo as he is. It's great. Maybe not historical correct, but it is awesome and give's the gladiator something more.o_O
The skintone is to red for me at the cheeks..

marc

Thanks for the compliments guys, you talked me into it the tattoo stays but I did do it all again.
Ron this is how I did it.
First I painted the area I wanted the tattoo to cover with a mixture of the skin tone and black, I want it fairly dark because when it's all done I'll give it a few washes with the skin tone.
