Hi guys,
I'm curious what figures you want to see on the market. Lets play on-line :) Let us know about your ideas and needs. We are looking an original, interesting subjects for new figures, just for you. Exactly what you want. We are talking about WW2 and modern figures.
We are interested in such things as nationality, pose, period/battle, season, type of uniform, scale and many other... Always welcome pictures and original photos. You can post your propositions here, send me on PM or email: [email protected]
The best idea will use in Mantis Miniatures future release and the author will get a special prize :)

Hi Artur. I would like to see more WWII action poses. There are way too many figures standing in one place pointing at something or sitting down. I feel that in war soldiers are almost always moving. (running, jumping, etc) and movement brings a whole new perspective to diorama's and single figure vignettes.

Thanks for letting me put my 2 cents in.

Thanks for your opinion, Gary. Yes, dynamic pose gives a lot of possibilities for modelers who are making vignettes and dioramas.

best regards
Artur

I guess you mean 1/35 scale since you mentioned Mantis.
Please remember that there already are many, many, many 1/35
figures in various subjects and poses in both resin and plastic.
In this scale with all the kits available, modelers have plenty of choices.

If you want to find out interesting subjects/poses that
modelers would like to see, here's my suggestion:
how about some Korean War figures? US Marines in Incheon,
NKPA infantries with Russian helmet, etc.

If you want to find out interesting subjects/poses that modelers
have bought and will buy, take a look at the gallery at any
military modeling sites. You will see exactly what 1/35 scale modelers want.
For more accurate suggestions, ask your dealers and distributors
what their customers order.

I believe that the true interestingness of a subject/pose can only be
measured by its popularity. Otherwise, it's interesting in a meaningless way.

Just my 2 interesting and yet meaningless cents

I've always loved this photo and wish I had the skill to sculpt this into a nice vignette.

I can't help you determine what would be commercially of interest, but some ideas for poses or subjects...

Homesick French drummer 1914 writing letter by Georges Scott
Uhlans in the wire 1914 or 1915 by Stephen Matania
Canadian Boer War soldier - from a statue in Toronto (sorry - don't know the sculptor)
Serbian soldiers 1912 - 13 by Stephen Walsh
Mike Chappell's illustration of a British bomber 1916 or 1917

All the best,
Dan

The 'home sick French drummer 1914', would make a very good subject for a vignette.

What I keep asking for everywhere, modern British and Modern US and Modern Russian troops in 1/35th in sitting positions to go in the likes of Trumpeters Chinook, Hind, and the myriad of other 1/35th helicopters, even 1970-80's British troops are scarce........ these figures would also allow them to be used in a lot of the modern armour that is about now.

More WW 1 figures in the 75 mm range.
Since i visit the city of Gent as a 12 year schoolboy, I was always impressed by the Statue of Jacob van Ertveld:

Further i love this statue in front of the Notre-Dame from Karel de Grote )
Charlemagne, in Paris.

Martin - I second that one! It is surprising no one has done a commercial bust on that subject!

All the best,
Dan

I'm not into soldiers at all but I tend to think that to get younger generations into the hobby modern day soldiers would be the way to go. Stuff like the special ops figures that some companies are starting to produce. A lot of newer video games based on war are leaning towards modern warfare and the special forces. Quite a few war movies over the past few years have been modern warfare too. As a teacher I see a lot of boys interested in the modern era soldiers and weapons but not many are into the older wars.
Just my observation of what I see in the classroom and pop culture.
As for me personally, I have no interest in the world war figures. At the moment I would really like to see the characters from "the league of extraordinary gentlemen" comic. Dorian Gray, Captain Nemo, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Alan Quatermain and the like. Maybe some other characters fro literary classics too. Capt Ahab, Romeo and Juliet. I'm sure they have probably all been done at some point but none that really stand out. By the way if you know of any I'd love to know about them being new to the hobby I've missed a lot :/

Andrew.

Thanks for all your comments. Many really interesting points of view. I encourage to further discussion. Pics and photos are welcome.

Taesung, thanks my friend for advice, very useful for all producers. I appreciate it.

Best regards
Artur

Dan, I would also not have thought that there is such a thing really not to buy.
Particularly as the uniform has a huge painting potential...

Now I hope for the big figure fair in Kulmbach / Bavaria next August.
There are normally some Russian manufacturers at the start...
Maybe somebody recognises this gap in the market.

Cheers

I realize this is a littel of topic, but Martin and Dan, I too am a bit surpised that no one has put out an Imperial Russian cossack in any scale (other than the busts from Model Cellar and the OOP (I think) figure from Poste Militaire), but with a little work these guys could fill the void

As Far as the original question is concerned, anything not SS :D Kidding aside, I would like to see figures from some of the smaller combatants and I would also like to see more volksturm especially HJ figures that would work in dioramas

Hi Dan,

Not to hijack Artur`s thread or anything, but I saw your wish list that included a sculpture from the South African War Memorial in downtown Toronto.

Just for interest's sake, the South African Memorial was designed and executed by the Canadian sculptor Walter Allward, who also designed the towering Vimy Memorial that sits atop Vimy Ridge in France:

Cheers, eh?
