I just found this on YouTube. The guy seems to know his stuff - many films I'd not heard of and some interesting thoughts on the obvious ones.

Thanks Nap.
I did like the thread you suggested but I wasn't actually asking for recommendations when I posted this one.
I posted this YouTube clip because it included some more obscure films, particularly of the 1930 period that I had not heard off and I wanted to share. I think the guy in the video also makes some interesting statements about authenticity (or lack of) in respect of tactics that I hadn't heard voiced by conventional film critics before.

See a good WWII prequel , Spain
There Be Dragon ( on Netflix )
All questions stays open :Why, who is the guy next to me , the one in front ? Syndicalist / Bosses ? Red/churh ? Hate / Love, and as background, the live of the guy who founded the move, Opus Dei, told by an opponent but a friend at heart .
A great movie about the poor guys from all sides who kills and are killed for what ? Because 2 types of dictatures communists / facists use the same old trick to attract under the iron grip of would be World Overlords : HATE, it's the most easy way to convince the masses; the others are hatefull ...

Some very interesting early films, I have the wooden cross movie and have to say it’s very good indeed well worth a watch. Going to look out for some of the other early stuff.

Watched the new all quite on the western front I quite enjoyed it again well worth a watch.

The guy is off in some areas of his knowledge but I agree with many of his rankings (for the ones I have seen). For example, 1917 is rubbish IMO. My recommendation is to watch the original All Quiet on the Western Front (1930s) version. It's so much better than the remake IMO, which is very poor (suffers from many of the same issues as 1917). Also, watch "They shall not grow old" by Peter Jackson if you haven't seen it.

He certainly has some that are worthy of investigation that I don't know.
