In Norse mythology, the Valkyries were warrior maidens of the god Odin and
were sent by him to the battlefields to choose the fallen warriors who were
worthy of a place in Valhalla. They flew through the air and sea on winged
horses wearing helmets and shields.

As supernatural beings, they were often associated with fairness, brightness
and gold, as well as bloodshed.

Great idea for a bust I reckon.
And I love the graceful flowing feel of the piece,
but I have to say I don't know if it's the photos or not but
I find that the upper torso seems too small for mine.
Either that or the head is too big.
What I mean to say is the proportions do not seem to be accurate.
Perhaps it's just me or the way I'm seeing the pics but I'll look forward to seeing
more of this one to clear that up.

It's a well-known optical effect called 'foreshortening'.

In short, as you get nearer to an object, it appears larger than its actual size.

The effect can be reduced if the object is viewed from a distance like in the quick pic below:

Still, as the bust is in a plunging pose, if viewed up front, the head would always be nearer to the viewer and therefore looks bigger . The effect is reversed when viewed from the back.

Foreshortening is often use in art to add drama to a picture. More of it HERE

Haha, Ulrich, I reckon you have a point especially if it's valkyrie Brünhilde in Richard Wagner's opera Der Ring des Nibelungen. She's usually depicted as a very buxom lady with horned helmet, spear and shield, the proverbial 'fat lady sings'.

On the other hand, if I were a dying Viking warrior, I would rather have an more ethereal, delicate and friendlier creature bring me back to Valhalla!

Most artists' representations of Valkyries depict them as young maiden riding horses in the sky (the famous 'Charge of the Valkyries' from Apocalyse Now). This is what I tried to convey with the flowing cape and the streaming hair.

The helmet and other details of the clothing are inspired by early Germanic/Viking artifacts. The helmet has embossed representations of dead warriors and ravens (symbol of death on the battlefields). The sculptured head on the front depicts a deity (Odin?). The rim is engraved with runes.

Ok. One point for you. And if I think about the "Walkürenritt" from the opera "Die Walküre" von Wagner I must say you are right
