Just in time for Christmas, here's my version of the 1/35 D-Day Miniatures Xmas Truce vignette. All painted in acrylics

This scene depicts a match between the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and a Saxon regiment, which the Germans allegedly won 3-2 (no change there then).

There's no contemporary evidence that this match actually took place but there were many documented kickabouts during the truces, so for me this represents the spirit of that truce. A poignant reminder of what many of our relatives went through.

Thanks very much guys, I'm glad you like this one. It turned out pretty well, the small scale was a bit of a struggle but overall it tells the story well.

Hi Nigel

Good to see the completed piece , nice effective groundwork showing just a slight snowfall , liking the painting of the figures

A nice Vignette telling a famous story

Thanks Kev! Although the sculpting of the figures isn't the greatest, the animation is really good and they tell the story well. And they were a gift from Paul S (DaddyO) so I had to do them!

That is excellent work Nigel!
Really liking your paintjob and the subtle snow effect. Sometimes model snow can be ‘goo-ey’(?) or too overpoweringly white. What you did is perfect and looks suitably cold.
How did you create the snow?

Adrian

Thanks very much Adrian. The snow is a combination of products (I was actually going for a heavy frost rather than snowy but let's say there was a light dusting of snow as well.... 😉). The basic light white dusting is Woodland Scenics soft snow flakes and this is augmented in a few places with small amounts of AK Interactive snow microballoons, which is a slightly thicker white powder than the snow flakes. The frost on the tips of the grass and adhering to the boots and football is a mix of AK Still Water and AK snow microballoons which is applied in small amounts with a size 1 brush. I'm glad you think it looks effective!

Suitably festive project.
Impressive finish Nigel, overall painting of figures is well handled, as is basework.
What are you most happy with mate?

Thanks a lot Mike, it is indeed very season appropriate!

In terms of the project, I think I'm happiest that I am starting to get a consistent approach and workflow for acrylics. I'm also starting to appreciate how light falls on the subject and how that impacts shading/highlighting, but I'm still on a learning curve there.

Nice theme and nice representation, but as a true enthusiast the question is "who won the tackle and took the ball"? I'm joking!!! really congratulations great work.

Thanks very much! As to the tackle, the sliding German would be heading for at least a yellow card, possibly a red, in this day and age. But back then a normal part of play!

This scene is based on a match which the Germans allegedly won 3-2. No penalties needed....... 😁
