Did they use the flame thrower at Arnhem in 1944?
Hello Ventress, I've never seen a wartime photo of a British Paratrooper wearing one at Arnhem, but there was a funny scene in the movie, A Bridge To Far, when a British flamethrower team hit that bleedin ammo dump. Regards, SG

It requires man with huge brass to handle a flamethrower ... that amount of fuel strapped on the back ... /shudders

yes they were used at Arnhem, there is an account in Cornelius Ryans` A bridge too far`. They are handy if your a smoker, never short of a light

Thanks for the info, pity he cant fit onto my four figure diorama from the same sculptor.

As Colin says a flamethrower was used on Arnhem bridge which destroyed an ammunition store setting fire to the recently painted bridge lighting up the area for some time.
Flamethrowers were also taken to Normandy by 6th Airborne Div which were operated by Royal Engineers. 9th Bn. Parachute Regiment were allocated some for use in their attack on the Merville Battery during the D Day landings.

Great figure, a great addition to the other para figures that you have. I don't suppose that you are willing to a job lot?? By the way, flame throwers are usually associated with assault pioneers as opposed to RE.
