Thanks Brad. I can see where you're coming from. That is also one of the reasons why I have steamed ahead in the past because you can't properly judge an area until the surroundings are in.
Grey get's in t'road. :D

Update time.
Waistcoat buttons and sash to complete before going any further.

Looking good Roger.
I know the normal step is to start at the top towards the bottow of the figure, but, in my opinion, always worth painting what you feel you want to paint at the moment, we all have our favorite areas to paint first, nothing wrong with it.

Cheers Daniel.
One method is to paint the face first then the clothing from the inside out, as if you were getting dressed, followed by the hat and boots, then the equipment....I've turned that theory right on it's head... face, boot and hat. :D

Hmm! Roger. I think you are building up a 'Flat-Fan' base  !... I for one can see your use of oils has developed at such a speed, its mind boggling! :D

I am loving this piece!

Regards,

Mark

Hi Roger ,

A fine piece of painting , the breeches and boots look really great , it's a nice start on the uniform colour .

Looking forward to seeing more from your palette

Thanks for sharing

Thanks very much Mark. If there is one valuable lesson I've learnt from painting with oils it is patience, master that and you're half way there.

Roger.

Thanks very much kev. I've put the first layer of shade on but there isn't much to see yet so I'll probably post another pic tomorrow.

Roger.
