For now thought this zoom in shot would help me explain colour mixes.
If you look carefully should be able to see from shadow to highest highlight on this section.

Kev - thanks again for kind support.
My palette was made up of:
1. AK Interactive WW1 German Uniform Base w/Jo Sonja Payne's Grey
2. Shadow tones: JS Payne's Grey & Burnt Umber
3. Highlight: WW1 French Uniform Light w/Payne's Grey again - helps tone it down.

On this project I was fortunate to have a bank of photos of the original uniform.
This was invaluable to help get tone & authentic textures.

Note: Ref Payne's Grey I often use one "core" colour throughout a figure to give overall complementary effect.

Looking good!! I really love the shot of his back as it really does display your painting technique to advantage. So, are you working from dark to light on this - that is painting the model in shadow color and then building the midtones and highlights on top of that base? Anyway, the effect of the texture from stippling is really nice to look at, especially in conjunction with your crisp detail painting. That really makes the texture 'pop'!

Thanks Nikolay, Bob & Andy - photos are only way to show detail i think in this scale.
When you view actual figure, unless well lit, most detail is not as clearly visible.
It's neat to have this technology nowadays to help us learn & show our art.

Zastrow - unfortunately this little guy stays in my portfolio shared here, but is destined for his new home in Russia together with his other Copper State comrades.

Good work, I like the uniform colors, they are correct. He is Francesco Baracca the most important italian ace.

Really value your comment Christian as I've tried hard to capture the spirit of "The Count" - a special young man who like too many had their lives cut short.

Love it Mike. Full of realism. My first thought was: he must be wearing a woollen jacket. Love the face too. Everything you did together gives him a cocky look that an Italian ace should have!
