WIP Couple of Cossacks

Hi everyone

Thought I would start do a double feature on 2 separate Cossack busts

The first is Major Erich Dienenthal Commander 1st Bn Don Cossack Reiter Regt



Thanks to PF members who responded on my thread looking for a Legend release .....I now have it here

This represents Ivan Nikitich Konovov 1900-1945 ( executed by hanging ) ...this will be the 2nd piece

Here's some pics of uniform , not seen in the sculpt ...might add the arm shield ?

Primed , flesh basecoated , eyes done working on the crown of the Papakha

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe the Konovov's uniform in the plate is the tropical version used to the DAK troops. Open neck, olive drab colour, eagle over kaki cloth.....

A good point there certainly looks like the DAK in the plate , saw a version by Marc Bennett ( gothicgeek ) not sure if he did the box art above in the early part of this V bench .....but I do like the idea of the DAK based on the plate here

Hi Nap, I noticed that Erich Dienenthal is wearing the SS type eagle on his wehrmacht cap. I would 't be surprised if he added that distinctive personal detail to his Kossack hat also.

Hi folks

Just opened up the original Corree box with the Colonel in it ...dissaponted in casting quality especially the face , one of the eyes had a blob of resin in the corner ...contacted company ( kingman models ) they are checking stock and sending me a replacement , if they haven't got a good one ( hope they do !!! ) they will contact the manufavpcturern ......

Couple of quick pics with the head and the heavy casting blocks underneath the torso , I will also replace the medal ribbon as it's far too proud on the uniform ...I can deal with these things but no point trying to sort the eyes !

Been working on this ...sorted the medal ribbons and resculpted the neck order ( one in box was a bit rough ) and I might possibly look at the cockade

Just out of interest these are the books I am using for details ( the first is particularly good )

Here's what I did on the Major

unsure what the cords are for but they are there ! ...any thoughts appreciated

Also added a Russian cockade and reworked the ears as they were damaged , going to attempt to sort the eye out

Hi Folks

Had a go at the eyes,by no means perfect but quite pleased with the result , used a small ball of magisculpt for the eye then tiny pieces for the upper and lower eyelids

Currently totally drying , shiny with Vaseline ! ....

Total respect for the sculptors !!!

Hi everyone

Been looking at the pics of Kovonov ...he is seen with the distinctive Cossack collar patches in at least 2 pics ...tempted to change them to those ....any thoughts ?

Also been working on the headwear of Dienenthal ......went for a gray colour ...calling it all finished ..the headwear that , using these reference for the badges



Might slightly highlight them a little more later .....

The same goes for the red on the crown ....

Looking at the reference picture need to add buttons as well ...

Would appreciate some thoughts and suggestions on the actual coat he is wearing , was going to do it as untreated leather but it's darker ...HELP!!
