    Fridge magnet sculpts...

The Japanese bulbul is particularly appropriate today. There is a legend that a Belgian bulbul dropped an omen on Napoleon's head just as the British army began its grand advance at the end of the Battle of Waterloo. If only I had a refrigerator...

WIP Critique 8th Cuirassier Regiment Graf Gessler.

It really is, and this is how it looked in real life: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-military-Germany-soldiers-eyepatch-medical-team-RPPC-photo-postcard-/380633195336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589f81a348 It would seem that you could "improve on reality", though, and make it a bit...

Completed Critique Bombing Officer 2nd Tyneside Irish - July 1, 1916

Khaki on khaki. No exciting colours or designs to attract the eye, yet you have done a great job of making this an arresting figure, where, for once, the viewer's eye is focused on the facial expression rather than the uniform. Congratulations.

Completed Life Guards Officer, Waterloo, 1815

My period! My area of interest! Great paint job that I can use as a reference when I paint mine. Cheers Phil

Preview! 75mm 93rd Highlander Crimean, For Marinominiatures

This figure is everything that everyone has said, and I can't think of any new words of praise. I do have good news about the badger head, which was uniquely representative of this regiment, though. Don't remove it, simply promote the corporal to sergeant; the paperwork is already in the...

Open Book Thanks to GRENADIER MINIATURES for this BUST !

Yes, this one is great, and as Zastro mentioned, it is a limited edition. Mine was mailed on 02/27 (or 27/02) and is numbered #11, so if these are going out in numerical order, anyone who still wants one should get a move on! Cheers, Phil

WIP Critique French Cuirassier on horseback (1812)

Yes, this is looking very nice, Osvald, and you have avoided over defining the muscle masses. You say that this is a preparatory "sketch", so did you deliberately leave the eyes unpainted? At the moment, he looks as though he might bump into something! Cheers, Phil

Review Sgt Bruse 11th Hussars From Mitches Military Models

"regarding the positioning of medals , the precedence was not set till much later , looking at many photographs medals are being worn in all styles and ways and seemingly in no order of precedence ". Helpful point. So far as I know -- does anyone have an earlier date? -- the first order of...

    Jo Sonja paint collection

Remember when Pelican Plaka was the paint for the in-crowd? I never had their skill, but I did use the paint, and when my last jar of the stuff dried into a solid chunk, I looked for a less expensive version of W&N's gouache. Jo Sonja's, originally just another craft shop paint with some...

Review Sgt Bruse 11th Hussars From Mitches Military Models

Ah, I envy your ability to check the real thing! I lived on the coast next to Hastings --St Leonard's --during WWII and when it was over and my folks took us on an outing to London, they would drop me off at the Imperial War Museum. Now I see that my siblings' generation are part of an exhibit...

Review Sgt Bruse 11th Hussars From Mitches Military Models

No doubt about it, this is the way to do a review; excellent job. I suspect that a number of members will be inspired to get this on the strength of your review. At the risk of gilding the lily, I would suggest, in addition to your well-chosen library, Fosten and the Mollo Boys' Into the Valley...

WIP Critique 200mm Royal Fusiliers (plus Legs)

For some reason, I have imagined that your officer was resting after Albuera, where, of course, there were no gabions. Of the many notable battles in which the 7th fought, though, from Busaco to Badajoz, Salamanca, and Vittoria, and the Pyrenees, the only battle that I can think of where they...

WIP Critique 200mm Royal Fusiliers (plus Legs)

Ha ha, Keith! You keep staying one or two steps ahead of me! First, I saw that you had mentioned the book that I recommended in your first post. Then, as I was thinking about yr dilemma while walking my dog, it occurred to me that you could replace the 7th's drum with...

    Private, 30th on Foot, 1854

No. this figure has a number of problems, including the width of the arms in relation to the shoulder wings and, most obviously, the fingers on the left hand, which are way out of proportion, but your painting has done a great job of minimizing these defects. Nice work!
