Hi everyone

Following on from the WW1 subject which is just about being finished https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/big-arthur-ww1-military-foot-police-redcap.642037/

Time to show what’s next ........Arthur #2

A classic sculpt from none other than David Grieve .......it is of course the Duke of Wellington , like many it’s been sat in the GA for too long so after being sent a MM magazine with a great article in it on this bust by none other than PF member MalcC

The sculpt is based on this portrait ..

Painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence 1814

Some references I will use

Several Nicknames ....

The "Iron Duke" related to Wellington's political, rather than to his military, career.

In popular ballads of the day Wellington was called "Nosey" or "Old Nosey".

More complimentary sobriquets, including "The Beau" and "Beau Douro", referenced his noted dress sense.

Spanish troops called him "The Eagle", while Portuguese troops called him "Douro Douro" after his river crossing at Oporto in 1809.

Napoleon dismissed his opponent as a "Sepoy General"...relating to Wellingtons Indian Service

Nameplate ready and waiting !

Currently cleaned up ....minimal as always , primed and based up .....next stop basecoating

Stay tuned

Happy benchtime

A subject that is right up my street. Nice start, looking forward to seeing this develop.

Considering how many models of Napoleon, mounted and on foot, are available in every scale, it would be nice to see a full size figure of his nemesis in a similar scale to the Grieve bust.

Lovely start Kev and a classic bust, he also spent time serving as the Constable of the Tower. His estate is up the road from here and for the life of me I cannot recall the name but it now has a nice farm shop!

Cheers Simon

Stratfield Saye, Simon

That's the one, I couldn't get Le Haye Saint out of my head, I knew it was close thanks for that. Incidentally there is also a very good and very large statue of old beaky in Aldershot, but if Kev wants close up photos he'll have to climb over the spikey fence himself!

Cheers Simon

Thank you , I’ve had this waiting for far too long so looking forward to seeing it progress

Think I will do his eyes first then hair and flesh

Any ideas about the painting are welcome from anyone

Enjoy the command book

Good stuff, Kev, promises to be a fine addition.....looking forward.
Reminded of that old schoolboy 'howler' that Wellington's funeral
being a very big affair where " it took ten men to carry the 'beer' "
