I have this 54mm drummer boy, and I don't know how to attach the arm/drum and the hand/sticks. The arm and drum is heavy, the hand with sticks is fragile.

1) How should I attach them? Gorilla Super Glue or epoxy?
2) Not much area to drill into at 54mm - advise?
3) Should I attach parts then paint? Drum would be hard to paint attached.

Any ideas sure would be appreciated.

I'd pin it use a paper clip then epoxy glue with a dab of superglue to hold it while the epoxy cures.

There you go Steve! Thanks much. There will be a gap I noticed when I test fit the arm, so gap filling super glue w/rod + epoxy should do it. I'm a bit concerned about drilling even with a pin drill though. Metal is soft.

Tony,

I would pin the arm with the Drum. Pre-Drill the wholes and get fitment correct first. You may also be able to pin the drum to his leg as well. That way you can use copper wire as opposed to a paper clip. It will you give you a little more flexibility. I would just use normal super glue with an accelerator if you can pin at two points.

I'll second what Steve said. Pinning is always the answer with metal figures, and epoxy will form a super strong bond so you aren't having to worry as much about things coming apart.

2 points! Hadn't thought of that, great idea. I've got brass rod in a small dia. and a bit to match.

I've had a bit of a hard time pinning parts together and aligning them. Seems I just can't get the hole centered with the rod...this has lead to some turkey necked figures ;)

Thanks gents;

Tony,

Make the holes different sizes! The pins in the Drum and Arm with the bit that fits the rod. The drill holes in the Body and Leg a little larger so you get the proper alignment of parts. Then glue and putty in the gaps.

Tony align the drum on the leg and mark for holes of different sizes as Mark says.
Line the arm at the sholder to get the best fit and glue it with Epoxy glue remembering to hold it exactly where you want it. Once its dry drill into the arm/shoulder and pin it in place with brass rod, same size as your drill, it will be just where you want it. When its finished sand away any of the pin left showing and fill the remaining hole.
That should hold it strongly, exactly where you want it.

I would definitely pin the drum to the leg as well for added support :),epoxy resin would be I think the best glue to use as well.

To align the holes use blue tack or similar drill one hole then put blue tack on the piece still to be drilled,wet the drilled surface and press the other piece to it. Gently seperate the two and you'll have a "nipple" that you can drill which will align the two holes. Tip courtesy of Carl (HouseCarl)

Tony,
Another way to get the holes aligned is to put a small blob of paint on the arm in what looks to be the centre. Then hold the arm to the body and a little paint will attach to the body, giving you two drill locations and with the holes a little larger than the pins that should allow some adjustment. Good seeing you in Chicago.
Cheers

Tony,

What I have done with similar figures is to paint the body and the arm/drum separate. Then I would use expoy glue to glue the arm to the body. Then fill in any gaps. Now when you paint the arm with drum, I would paint it up to the elbow. Then when you have it all glued and gaps filled I would use a hand drill and drill a hole through the arm into the body. Then all you have to do is fill in a little hole. By doing it this way it is all lined up and all gaps filled.

Thanks one & all! All of your suggestions have saved me from some possible headaches, and all of the ideas will be stored in my tips file.

Great stuff guys, really appreciated;
