Got started painting this fella.
Decided to got with coyote brown for the vest as I thought it looked cool and also there's going to be enough tears with the Marpat camo on it's own.
Just waiting on the bottle of Marpat paint to arrive.

His eyes are acrylics, his face is pre shaded with acrylics and oils applied on top. The eyes on this guy are so recessed I kept bashing my brush off the optivisor trying to see.

Still need to do his lips, tidy the eyebrows and paint the facial hair.

I like my soldiers dirty and the Marines had a hard slog in Fallujah so he'll be fairly battleworn.
I wanted to create some dirt on his face, drawn eye sockets and red rimmed tired eyes.
It's hard to make the dirt subtle and not make it look like bad painting but hopefully it's passable

See what you think, got a new camera today so blatted off some shots down the range for practice.

Cheers,
Gells

Coming along nicely Gells.
Looking photo 3, the eyes seems very realistic.(y)

Pedro.

Hello Gells, Nice start to your Marine, the face looks great so far, and so do the eyes. Maybe some pastels would work for your weathering? There subtle enough to not overdo your weathering process. Looking forward towards your progress on this one. Good Luck.(y) Regards, SG

Great skin tones. I sympathise over the MARPAT. It is a difficult pattern. Getting the base colour right is very important. If using enamels I would go for Humbrol 121 Pale Stone. Imagine the uniform being printed by a series of horizontal lines, line by line on a computer printer.

For the digital pattern use a series of horizontal brush strokes/lines across the uniform in the different colours to build the island shapes, working from lighter to darker. This will give you the square edges you need. Only at the end add the 'dots' of colour - but again as very short horizontal strokes/lines, rather than round spots. Currently I'm working on a MULTICAM pattern and that's doing my head in!

Cheers everyone for the comments.

Thanks Oironsides, I'll try that method and see how I get on.

Hi Gordon, Today he'll mostly be wearing....Marpat.

Have to agree with others this bloke has the look of a man who's been doing a long and dirty job alright (y)

Looks great, I love this face sculpt! I've never been one for it, as it scares me mostly, but if you look at the photos from OP Phantom Fury, the boys are all FILTHY...

Thanks Alex,
Yup, they had a hard fight sure enough. I liked this pic for reference...but if you went as dirty as this I think it would just look like bad painting.

You are off to a blazing start on one of the best modern busts ever made. The eyes and all other progress is spot on....but you know you want to do the woodland camo on the IBA. You know you do.:)

Yup he is defo a good looking guy! Not sure about the gi joe in his backpack though. I don't know what else I could put in there.
Lol i did mate but the coyote one will show up more dirt and grime and i'm hoping make him look battleworn.
Cheers,

Gells,it is actually an R.Lee Ermey doll..(ya gotta google it),hilarious...based on an actual pic,was carried all through Fallujah. The only other option I could think of is an MRE (Meal Refusing to Exit) pouch sticking out instead of the doll.
