Did a wee bit more tonight.
Finished the tack and bridle, less the parade bridle... which is silver braid. The girth strap needs a bit of fine tuning (or re-doing). The highs on the black leather don't show well in the photos :sorry:

Want to try something for the parade rein... I've braided three fine strands of copper. Once flattened and shaped, I'll lock it with a drop of glue and prime. It will be painted as silver braid. I'll see how it works before I commit it to the figure.

One day I'll pluck my feathers and give the oils a try. I have a few horses waiting in line so one of them will get ''oiled'' for sure. I remember that WIP of the Lancer horse... awesome. I was waiting for the Lancer to be done too :(.

Lol! ... I am now struggling with 90mm! and haven't touched it for over a year!.. although that photo was taken yesterday!... so it does give weight to the use of Oils! ,, seeing your 'Horse', has got the old 'Cranial Cogs', going again! ... maybe one day!!

Regards,

Mark.

True, Rousellot shows it as flat... and silver. I saw some pics of re-enactors where the parade rein was silver, flat braid and it looked cool (even if it isn't 100% accurate). Unfortunately, last night I rolled my piece flat and pulled it tight and it looked kind of good but... a little too thick at this scale. If this was 75mm it might have worked.

I'll have to stick with using lead foil for both reins. Thought I'd try something a little different... oh well.

I've set aside a couple of hours tonight and hope to get the horse done and get a start on the Cuirassier as well. Should be posting pics later on this evening.

Stay tuned ;)

Colin, this project is getting more interesting with every post, I am sure you will be happy when you are done with the horse.
Cheers
You betcha!!!
Dying to get brushes on the rider proper... One of my favourite Napoleonic uniforms, for sure. Right up there with Chasseur a Cheval of the Guard and Guard Lancers (both Dutch and Polish) amongst others.

Didn't get as far as I'd have liked tonight but here's where I'm at so far:

Shabraque- Dark Prussian Blue+Black, highlighted by adding Bluegrey, shaded by adding black to the base. Stitiching of the saddle quilt was washed with black ink.

Silver border- Based with Neutral Grey then washed with black
IMGP0421.jpgIMGP0422.jpg IMGP0423.jpgIMGP0424.jpgIMGP0425.jpg
Base coat of Natural Steel. Hashmark pattern added with black ink.
IMGP0427.jpgIMGP0428.jpg
Highlight pass with pure silver.
IMGP0430.jpg
Final wash with black ink to pick up detail.

Once the Regimental piping around the silver braid is done, I may do another silver highlight... we shall see. But that will be tomorrow.

Cheers

Coming along nicely Colin.
The shabraque is looking really fine. If you wanted any comment? It may be a little too metalic on the silver braiding. This could be just reflection picked up by the camera.
Looking very well though.
Cheers,
Keith

Could be a little of both... Still fiddling with it. Perhaps a grey filter to knock down the shine. I'll be posting finished horse pics within the hour.

I'm gonna call the horse done. The reins will be installed when the rider is mounted and the hooves will be done just before they "hit the ground". Of cource there will be touch ups at the end of the road.

Did some work on the man himself:
Based the blue of the jacket (Dark Prussian Blue+Black), finished the breeches as a very pale (almost white) buff using the Andrea White Set. Started the boot liners (at the knee) by basing Sky Grey and painting over with Offwhite... no shading on these yet.

There's not much face to speak of, really just a jaw, mouth and tip of the nose. These pics turned out shite :(

I think I'll start another thread for the progression of the Cuirassier.
Thanx for looking in

Colin
