This took an interesting turn ;)
Anyhoo, I've never painted with oils before. I have gathered some oils but have yet to dip a brush in them. I might have to try using oils on a spare horse to see how it works for me. The SBS is very good... my French, not so much:sorry:
As for the cuirass, I am going to paint it as well. I will stickwith the devil I know. Using acrylic metals and washes I've been happy with the results doing polished steel.
I will be trying to post pics as I do sections of this piece.

Cheers

Colin

Hi Colin,
You are certainly not messing about and making the most of that knee.(y) If I were you I would certainly give the horse a go in oils, I'm sure you will have no problem and they give a nice satin sheen and blend really well.
Dave Forsey (Dr Force) gave me a great SBS for my 17th Lancer when I had not used oils or ever painted a horse before, it's on my vbench. If you can't find it, I cut and paste the relevant part for you if you would like it.
cheers
Richie

One day I'll pluck my feathers and give the oils a try. I have a few horses waiting in line so one of them will get ''oiled'' for sure. I remember that WIP of the Lancer horse... awesome. I was waiting for the Lancer to be done too :(. I took yesterday off... should hopefully get back to the bench today.
