Hello Planeteers and Happy New year to you all.
After a month and a half out of town i am back on my workbench and with happy brushes to paint some new figures.
I have ordered 4 cavalrymen from Steve Barber, owner and scultor locayed in the UK.
This figures were comissioned to him by Johan Peter Scheck from Germany.
The figures looks great, the details on the uniform are very nice and accurate.
I may replace the heads ( keeping the hats) like i did with the Standatd bearer since i want to add variety and avoid having the same face over and over within the group of cavalrymen.
These figures could be either Gendarmes de la garde du Roi or Chevaux-legéres, the ONLY difference on their uniform, at least until 1762 was that the gold lace for the Chevaux-legéres had some intermixed silver lace near the buttonhole on the gold lace.
The uniform consisted of a beautiful scarlet/red coat, gold lace, black velvet cuffs with gold lace , red troussers and buff color vest.
I have ordered 4 figures for now, i am planning to add some variations , perhaps arms in different position to add to the scene, thes etrooos will be added to the gardes Francaises and Suisses.
Here is the link to Steve Barber website, you can also find him on facebook.

I have cleaned the figures using a abrassive sponge as i normally do, warm soapy water andnprimed with self etching primer.
I decided to try 4 different colors as a base for the red coats.
Citadel Mechrite Red
Citadel Mephiston Red
Vallejo Model.color Flat Red
Vallejo Game gory Red

Thanks Kev,
The plans for these fellas is to have them with the swiss and french guards at Fontenoy along with other Bodyguard cavalry near King Louis XV, they are compatible with the 40mm figures from Trident.
I hope you and your family had a great new year's eve. :)

I have washed the standard bearer with a new wash i bought from greenstuff, the wash it's really nice and works fine with a medium red base color.
I added the first lights, decided to try citadel Air evil sunz scarlet, then added last lights using citadel wild rider red.
Worked on the lace and added base color for the hat and face.

I shall follow this one Daniel. The Chevaux-legers de la Garde are my favorite cavalry regiment of the Maison du roi. I recently purchased an autographed letter written by the duc de Chaulnes. Besides having led an incredibly interesting life (soldier, scientist), he was also colonel of this regiment in the 1740s. He later becane a general and was present at many of the key battles of the mid-18th century for the French.
Did you finally get Gabrielle Mendella's book on the Maison du roi? It is a MUST get if you enjoy the subject.

Very nice asquisition on that Jaybo!,
And yes, i shall get that book, trying to recover from the holydays now but that book it is a must!.
Best regards

I decided to make one of the figures and officer in a different pose, cutted off the torso, sanded the front and added some mix of green stuff and magic sculp to make the pose of torso slightly twisting to the left, added an existing head i had completed, this will definitely break the monotony of these figures, the idea is to have 10 troopers including the standard bearer, and 2 more figures in a different pose.
I decided to make this officer with an unbuttoned coat, worked on the front of the vest, then will add the open front ends of the coat.

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the pictures , don't you just love the names of some of the Citadel paints !

The scarlet and lacework certainly seems to be working well , and again thse are real nice pieces to work on .

And now you are converting as well ...nice position choice and the 2 together work well .

Mums admit I am becoming more and more interest in this period ..so colourful

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime
