Here’s the finished model from Ross and Gordon at Mitches, sculpted by Moz Corry.
An absolutely cracking wee figure, full of detail and a really interesting subject. Painted completely in acrylics.
Speak to the boys at Mitches Models if this on takes your fancy!

Excellent painting John - like the colour & texture of the rock face, you’ve definitely nailed the OG nylon of the Bergen rucksack & faded 58 Pattern webbing. The face panel of the PRC-320 radio is a proper work of art, exactly how I remember them. Superb piece.

Great work, got to agree with Chris ref the colour for the bergan and the beast of a radio

You might have thought the PRC-320 was a beast Jed, but it was nowhere near as heavy, awkward & difficult to tune & net as its Larkspur predecessors the A13 (HF) & A41 (VHF). They were proper beasts...…..

I think I just missed them Chris although I do know the names,to a man on his feet it all became heavy at some point

Thanks fellas, the 320 was by far the best piece of kit I used, I can remember stopping on a mountain top at the back of Voss in Norway, using only a piece of braid run out managed to pass traffic to a detachment set up in Bulford in Wiltshire! HF was a an acquired skill, but a handy one to have.

That’s a fantastic story John, sorry for diverting your thread slightly, but it demonstrates just how good the Clansman system actually was. Was there a rebro somewhere along the way, or was your transmission straight line of sight?

I’m guessing you were probably AMF(L)?

The trailing wire antenna was a great ancillary skill to have, I remember being taught antenna theory in great detail on my B3/B2 Regimental operator’s course in 1981, & despite being absolutely rubbish at maths at school I came top in the antenna theory written exam because the subject just clicked into place. I was always proud of that result, because it proved I’d actually put some effort in to master the skill rather than just turning up & attending the course.

Yes mate, 249 signal Sqn. And no rebro, they were VHF anyway. I literally opened the top of the Bergan, turned on the radio, laid out the pre measured braids, tuned and transmitted! I was trying to get in touch with the mongs at our own HQ, but they weren’t listening in, and all of a sudden a familiar voice piped up, Jelly Smith on the RATT detachment set up working safety comms in bulford to cover the vehicle deployment over there! We should never of gotten rid, Bowman was shite.
