    Brave Little Belgium

Yes Jim, Thomas Hart Benton was an influence on that piece as well as Strange Fruit. I mention it in the article I did on Strange Fruit in Historical Miniatures. Well, as far as retirement goes I went back to my earlier love, music and produced two albums. Here is one of them...

    Brave Little Belgium

Just a side note, except for the Pollack vignette all of my dioramas had vehicles in them. Some were scratch built like the Marne taxi, the Belgian Minerva armored car and the car the Archduke was in. The rest were die cast models that I modified to fit the scene. Here is a detail of the farm...

    Brave Little Belgium

The last pieces I did where of a chain gang and a small vignette of Jackson Pollack for a friend of mine. I did several other dioramas most of which were sold to collectors.

    Brave Little Belgium

The second WWI dio was on the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria. The 100th anniversary of the event occurred recently. An interesting aspect and a bit of poetic license was in the fact that in the building behind the scene I put a small shadow box vignette of trench warfare as...

    Brave Little Belgium

I did three dioramas on WWI and this was the first of the series: Taxi de la Marne about the French army being conveyed to the first battle of the Marne in 1914:

Here is Strange Fruit about a Klan lynching in the 1920's. The title comes from a song made famous by Billy Holiday.

    Brave Little Belgium

Thanks for the comments gents. I stopped modeling a few years ago due to trouble with my eyes and working with 1/32 scale. I did quite a few dioramas and I am so glad people remember them. For those who are not familiar here are a few pics: Punitive Patton - Lt. George Patton in Mexico with...

    Lead thread

I got some lead wire from Bass Pro shops ten years ago and still have quite a bit left. They also have one type that comes on a large spool that is striated that is perfect for miniature rope. The wire is wrapped in a sheathing that has to be stripped off which is no big deal.

a message from Roger Saunders (Hornet)

Russia also is notorious for pirating software (not sure about figures). I develop software for musical synthesizers and a recently released product was available on a Russian pirate site the day it came out. These countries are rogue and there is virtually no way to stop them except appealing...

    US Army Phillippines 1941

This is the uniform of the period: DML has the Springfield in this kit but the uniforms are not correct: I do not know of any other MFG who makes the exact figures in 1/35. You would have to scratch a lot the parts yourself I think.

Wanted: 54mm WWI French rifles and MG

Actually, I might be wrong about the Berthier. They have a cavalry carbine that is a Berthier. Here is pic of Lebel: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Model_1886_Lebel_rifle.jpg Here is the Berthier...

Wanted: 54mm WWI French rifles and MG

The best WWI rifles are from Metal Models. You would have to contact them directly to see if they will sell the weapons separately as they are normally part of their figure kits. They make the Lebel but not the Berthier or MG like Chauchat. They also make the Springfield, Enfield and Mauser. I...

    first major conversion?

I really don't like working with styrene but prefer resin. However, I have found that using a jeweler's saw is ideal for cutting either material. The problem with styrene is it melts and drilling holes with a Dremel is just no good as the bit gets clogged immediately. So finger drills are good...
