    1/9 Russian Tank Crew

Re: 1/9 Russian Tank Crew, body started Started on the body for the Russian tank crewman....basic shapes are in, now the fun of adding the details starts..

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

Hi Gary, Good advice there, and definitely should be heeded. I tend to bake far cooler and shorter than a lot of people....275 degrees for 30 minutes for even the thickest of pieces....sometimes as short as 15 minutes for thinner pieces. I find those times give the piece lots of hardness, but...

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

A little more progress on the JE Johnson sculpt, the legs are roughed in, along with the back of the jacket which isn't visible here. I need to remove some material in the crotch area since his legs are looking a bit too short. The folds in the pants will be refined and sharpened with carving...

    1/9 Russian Tank Crew

Hi Gordy, yes, it's Super Sculpey firm...I really like it to work in since I like to rework things a lot and having no time restraints really helps.

    1/9 Russian Tank Crew

A little more progress on the head and helmet...I'd like to have him chewing on a piece of straw or wheat. Anyone have any ideas how to do that in 1/9 scale? I'm thinking photoetch might work if there's anything that's appropriately scaled?

    1/9 Russian Tank Crew

Hi all. I sat down to work on Sally the dog for the Johnnie Johnson sculpt but couldn't make any headway on that, so I got distracted and started a Russian tank crewman in 1/9 scale. He's only just getting going, but I think I'm heading the right way toward capturing the character of the...

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

Just a quick update, the right side shoulders and chest are developing, along with the collars and scarf around the neck. Folds are roughed in and will undoubtedly be changed many times before they are finished. The belt around the waist is mostly to help determine proportions and will be...

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

Hi all, not much of an update, but after an early Christmas trip to Canada to visit my family, I managed to get back to the JE Johnson sculpt. Pretty minor progress, but the basic posture is roughed in. Underneath the clay there's electric fence wire with a little tinfoil to give the clay...

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

Sally looks like a black lab to me, and she's generally described that way when being referred to. I'm always open to additional information though.

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

I'm planning on doing the dog since Sally was a pretty important part of Johnson's story. I think it brings a little something different to the sculpt. Here's hoping that dog likenesses aren't too tough!!

Another 1/16th aviator, J.E. Johnson and Sally

Another new project, based on the reference pic of J.E. Johnson. Very much in the early phases, but I thought I would post a bit more of a SBS version on this one. Progress will be slow because of the Holidays, but I'll try to post pics fairly regularly on the different steps. Once I have a head...

    Panhard Crew

Hi Hiroshi, If I could offer one little piece of advice that might help with your overall anatomy, it's to make the shoulders wider and have the torso slope down to a narrower waist. That way the arms will hang more naturally once you add them. Keep up the good work!

Paddy Finucane 1/16 sculpt in progress

More progress on Finucane sculpt I have the sculpt a little further along, including the cup of tea, and the final shaping on the pantlegs, boots, etc. I have some small details to add in using Magic Sculpt, since sculpey can get a little fragile when added in small amounts.

Paddy Finucane 1/16 sculpt in progress

Here's a more front on view of the sculpt. I have added bulk to the left leg, still lots to do on the right leg and boot. The right arm problem has been resolved and the pose will now include him holding a cup of tea..very English I think, or Irish in this case, but it still works for the pose...

    Rommel figure 1/9 200mm

Hi Antonio I agree with Taesung's comment about the arms being a bit too long. It may also just be me or the camera angle but there is a slight flare in the coat below pocket level that gives the impression of his hips being lower than they should be. That also might contribute to the thought...

Paddy Finucane 1/16 sculpt in progress

thanks guys, I appreciate your comments. Antonio I can definitely see what you are referring to but I think the camera angle has made the head look a little bigger than in reality. I have him scaled at 7 heads tall, which I think is pretty representative for Finucane's body structure. I will...

Paddy Finucane 1/16 sculpt in progress

Hi guys, here's a pic of a new project I've been working on. I have been working with this reference pic for the likeness, but posed him in flight gear since it makes the sculpt a little more interesting. Still lots of work to do on the right side, including figuring out what to do with his...

    "Frozen in time"

thanks Carl, I'm happy to know I did your great sculpt justice! Grant, the acrylic paint mixes on the uniform do have a bit of green and brown mixed on the brush, then higlighted with some orangish tones and lighter browns. Face is done in oils with a little more red and pink then normal to try...

    "Frozen in time"

Thank you Marc and Tony. To say my paintwork did a sculpt of this caliber justice is a very nice compliment, and I appreciate it.
