This is the first time I've posted to the painting forum and it's not so much to display my painting, but to say how great I think this Carl Reid sculpt is. The expression on the face and the overall feel of the sculpt is really outstanding. Really top notch and so much fun to paint.

You should be very pleased of a nice job well done Martin, but the Fusilier cap badge should be all brass. I agree with you it is a great bust.
Carl.

Hi Carl, thanks for letting me know that about the badge. I'm certainly no uniform expert, and I somehow interpreted the box art as being red on the upper portion of the badge. I'll make that correction. Thanks for the help!

Really very good Martin. I have this bust too and can't wait to have a crack at it. Carl has really captured a great character face there.

Your painting of this bust is first class.

Very good paintwork Martin.
Mine is almost finished. Only tweaking on the face.
You are absolutely right about the sculpt. It's awesome, and your paintwork did it justice.

Marc

Thank you Marc and Tony. To say my paintwork did a sculpt of this caliber justice is a very nice compliment, and I appreciate it.

thanks Carl, I'm happy to know I did your great sculpt justice! Grant, the acrylic paint mixes on the uniform do have a bit of green and brown mixed on the brush, then higlighted with some orangish tones and lighter browns. Face is done in oils with a little more red and pink then normal to try and capture the feel of cold. Then I just went deep on the lines in the face to try and emphasize the misery in the sculpt. Sometimes I struggle to get character painted in a face, but that wasn't the case here, the sculpt made it easy.
