A question about Face painting with oils

There's an excellent tutorial on painting faces by Craig Whitaker (Mongo Mel) who I think also posts on here: http://www.hfmodeling.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=90624#748883 I still use this method, as I'm just getting back into figure painting...

    E.V.Ball x 2

It's me that should thank you Dan. I never met Ted, as he passed on before I met Chrissie; but I'd like to have done. She's really chuffed with the results.

My latest work. It's a pair of figures sculpted for me by Dan Morton. They represent my late father-in-law, Edward Victor Ball, at two stages in his life - in 1916 when he falsified his birth certificate and joined the Royal Artillery (he got caught and sent back to an Army school for two years...

    The duke of hazard

Gino, a worthy follow up to the young knight. Takes me (almost) back to my childhood!

    Historically correct.

It depends on the figure. Mostly I will try to be accurate in my painting, and look for the same in the casting; however sometimes a not-so-accurate figure just jumps out at you and crys "paint me"!.

Excellent work on the red Costas. I'm always a fan of your work, but this is a real goodie.

    Bust - King Henry VIII

This was a commercial souvenier that I picked up on a day out at Leeds Castle in Kent. It was originally in white resin and stands about 3.5" tall. I painted it in oils over acrylics as usual. The jacket front was painted using three different colours in an effort to simulate velvet.

    The Fall of Jerusalem 1099

Very expressive face - this guy looks tired (of life?)

How do you feel about figure pricing?

It's just the rising cost of figures (and models in general) that's hitting me, although it's a contributing factor - it's the rising cost of living that means I have no money available for hobbies. That and failing eyesight. I have one bust, two figures to come from Dan Morton, another that was...

The Chasseur is finished minus the ground work.

Looks good Roc, neat painting with loads of great detail. I agree on the groundwork - basic is good sometimes!
