A Fixture
My latest work. It's a pair of figures sculpted for me by Dan Morton. They represent my late father-in-law, Edward Victor Ball, at two stages in his life - in 1916 when he falsified his birth certificate and joined the Royal Artillery (he got caught and sent back to an Army school for two years before continuing as a gunner) - and in 1946 after service through WW2 as a photographer in the RAF. In this later incarnation he served through the war in the Desert before joining 2 Photo Reconnaisance Unit. He continued to serve after the war in the RAF Reserve whilst working as Chef & Valet to Air Chief Marshal Sir John Slessor.
The bases are made to appear as if he had his photo taken twice in the same studio, 30 years apart.
These will be my last figures for a while. I'm suffering from 'burn-out' together with an eyesight problem which means that I have trouble painting even with a magnifier
