Stunning painting. Re the historical accuracy discussion. I'm pretty sure that Sammy Davis Junior wasn't in the Air Cavalry. He was a singer/actor made popular with films starring Dean Martin. I really wish people were more accurate. Just my two cents

Thanks Brian, Davie just recommended the light umber wash. You know he doesn't go in for that acrylic, pearlescent witchcraft......he thinks it's the work of the devil! Gells

Tried a few different things with this. The breast armour is leather but has a metallic sheen to it. I mixed german camo beige with some white pearlescent scale 75 paint which got the effect I was happy with. Added more pearlescent for highlights. Then oiled up with umber paint sponged off and...

Painting it in oil paints will give a satin finish. Alternatively some diluted satin varnish applied will work. Also worth looking at using diluted ink over the piece which will give a satin look if you build it up. Sometimes mixing flat paint with gloss can give you the satin look but this is...
