    Back After A Long Hiatus

After being away from the hobby for many years, I'm telling myself I'd like to get back to painting. Every time I look at the work of others, see new figures, I get the bug all over again, but I'm just not sure my older eyes will be able to manage it. I'll be starting all over relearning what...

Ell Viejo Dragon British Navy Captain Still Available?

Thanks. I do hope Chuck's health issues are not serious. I may have to try EVD directly though I'd prefer to avoid shipping costs. And posting in the market is a good idea but unfortunately I don't have privileges to post there at this time.

Zouave of the Imperial Guard Crimea, 1855 FER Miniatures 54mm

Wonderful job. What colors did you use for the gold on the tunic and pants? I have the hardest time making mine look non-metallic but still gold.

Ell Viejo Dragon British Navy Captain Still Available?

An acquaintance who is a big Patrick O'Brian fan asked me if I could make him a figure that would represent that author's Aubrey-Maturin series. I found the EVD figure C4-F33 Captain, British Navy 1805 but it appears to be out of production. I saw the item listed on the Red Lancer site, but...

Oils Paint Colors for a Starter Set?

After a long hiatus I am thinking of getting back to painting. My old oil paints pretty much dried up. I can't even get the tops off of most of the tubes. Not wanting to spend a fortune on new paint, I don't want to get every color available but would rather get the basics with which I could...

    Lighting For Painting

Thanks. Hope so. It would go in a desk lamp like this one. That one comes with a 6500K bulb of unspecified CRI, but I'd replace it. I can use the original bulb in the similar floor lamp we have.

    Lighting For Painting

I found this fluorescent bulb that might work in a desk lamp in my new work area: NaturesSunlite™ Compact Fluorescent Flat Quad, 27 Watt (Item # FML2755), 5500K Full Spectrum Supreme, 96 CRI.

Unfortunately my new work area won't accommodate tube fluorescent bulbs.

    Lighting For Painting

I've found other posts by artists that agree with what you've said here. Unfortunately it seems that most bulb packages do not give the CRI number. I may have to order on line to know I'm getting bulbs with the desired spec. Are temperatures above 5000 not good for miniature painting?\

    Lighting For Painting

Thanks for the advice. I just moved to a new house (in the North Carolina mountains) and am still setting up my work space. I don't have a lot of space and am thinking of using an old roll-top desk. That being the case, there's not a lot of room for the large swing-arm units I used to use. I've...
