    Back to Base(ics)

I am closing in on finishing up a figure and want to put it on a base. When I first started the kit I didn't think much beyond the metal base that came in the kit. I was thinking of just getting some pieces of 'better' hardwoods & staining/varnishing them myself.Could I please have some input as...

    Just Saying Hello

Welcome Pete! Nice work--looking forward to seeing more. I'm pretty new here myself--and yes, the friendliness abounds in this greate site! As a female modeler, it's meant a lot to me... --linda

    Let it snow...

Some great ideas out there--and I just found one more! I was in a model RR shop in my neighborhood yesterday buying some dio supplies & found some 'snow' effect material from Arizona Rock & Mineral Co. made from marble dust. The package tag claimed that it "catches light & glistens like real...

    I can see clearly now...

WOW! What a difference the Optivisor makes! Thanks to all that recommended them in my earlier post. I put those bad boys on and went back and looked at a 54mm resin figure I thought I had cleaned up and lo! I had missed a very nasty spot on the coat! Could have been quite an embarrassment later...

    New Additions from Pepe

Beautiful work! The Celtic Chief is lovely--in a brutish sort of way (ha, ha!). I'd love to be able to read the articles on "Liiliput"--unfortunately I'm a dunce when it comes to learning languages and failed Spanish miserably :( Keep showing Pepe's work--an inspiration! --linda

    Let it snow...

Thanks for all the tips--but don't stop writing about this topic--I'm sure there are a gazillion other methods... As for Hudson & Allen it appears they are defunct--what a bummer! Aside from the snow, they had a ploethora of scenic effects! And just when I was getting back into modeling! I would...

Its great to have a hobby!

Janne--interesting thread--and so relevant after the week I've had! I agree wholeheartedly. I am glad I have an outlet for my creative side, having pretty much lost my enthusiasm for trying to make it in the overly-competitive and often pretentious fine art world! I had three art shows last year...

    Let it snow...

I have seen a number figures with beautiful bases covered with 'snow' around these pages. I have a figure I would like to insert in such an environment when it's finished--what do you use for this snow? I know Andrea makes one--or is it Verlinden? I also saw a figure here that had some snow that...

    Great War Web Site

I spent quite a bit of time looking around this interesting WWI site--one of the best I've seen on the subject. It occurred to me as I was looking at the photos that, here we are, all safe in our dens working on model soldiers--while the real ones were out there fighting and dying all through...

    Gunze Sangyo Mr. Metal

Where can I purchase some of the Gunze Sangyo Mr Metal? I usually buy my stuff from Squadron, but I don't see the Mr. Metal listed in their Gunze Sangyo inventory. I am only just finding out about other vendors for figure modelers--so any help with this one will save me a lot of futzing around...

    brian's pics

Brian--nice job! I like the scowl. What's it a conversion from? What kit did you use for starters? I'm not familiar with this one... --linda

    "Santa is coming to town"

Welcome, Marijn--what a story! This is a very original dio, well laid out. The figures and armor is painted beautifully and the color scheme between all with the background is very unifying. I do have a quetion--what are the measurements of this dio? It looks like it would be very large, but...
