    Vallejo Arte Deco paints

Well they are likely to be thicker straight from the container, once thinned to your normal working consistency I'm not sure how noticeable any difference will be. I'm also a big fan of the Jo Sonjas, although I wouldn't normally use them for skin as they're too matt. If convenience is the main...

    painting rifle stocks advice

Collecting reference pics and working from them is great general advice, it's something that everyone should do at least when starting out. Because I don't use VMC I can't be too specific with colour recommendations but a good generic approach to painting the wooden furniture on rifles is...

Stripping paint & primer off resin figures

I've had great success with it too; the first time I had to use it was stripping a metal figure for a repaint when acetone wouldn't budge the old acrylic paint (still not sure why) so needed something with more teeth and Mr. Muscle did the trick, took it right back to bare metal without much...

    Heroes & Villains Miniatures News

I like the sculpting on the Fallschirmjäger overall, although I think the hands are a little massy for the overall build. Combined with the large head this gives an odd look to the proportions for an adult - in the left 3/4 view where the face is in profile it looks a bit like a child dressed in...

    Vallejo Arte Deco paints

Alex, if you're looking to try just that colour it's not worth spending much effort hunting it down, it can't make that much difference - no single colour does. You can literally substitute every colour in a flesh mix with something else and have no perceivable change to the end product. Einion

Bust 71 Regiment (Highland Light Infantry)

That looks really nice, I like this form of bust the most with just enough of the chest and arms to frame the face. Not sure about those nicks in the edges of the crossbelts, they look contrived, but everything else looks good. Einion P.S. One thing on the diced band, I think these were...

marble powder for snow or not?

I don't like marble dust for snow as when you add enough to PVA to make it stiff enough not to slump the paste is too opaque - looks like plaster. Marble dusts do vary in particle size though and the finer ones will be most prone to this but unfortunately the fine stuff is the most versatile...

    RAF blue

Do you have a reference you're working towards? Like most uniform colours there was a fair bit of variation and if you have a specific target in mind there are good and bad choices to work with. In general for darkish blues I like to recommend starting with any version of French Ultramarine...

    WIP Forest Ranger ,NZ wars,75mm

The drapery on the trousers and the creasing on the boots is just ace Andy, lovely job. I realise the head isn't complete yet but it looks way small to me. Einion

    which putty???

Welcome. In case it's of any help getting the most out of your remaining Milliput, see this other current thread. Einion

    which putty???

I haven't used the Andrea stuff so no idea what that's like but I can highly recommend MagicSculp, I think it's one of the best putties available and it's especially easy for new users to get along with - it blends really easily and leaves nearly no residue on the fingers if you're mixing...

Just a rant on animals and figures

Cats, no respectors of art! Glad it wasn't damaged too badly Glenn. Einion

    Vikings on the History Channel

Agreed. Maybe they need to look up the definition of "specialist channel" :D Although I'm in favour of anything that helps reduce its jokey reputation as The Hilter Channel they should be historical ideally, but it would seem that's not enough to pay the bills. Einion

    Milliput

This can happen with all colours of Milliput and it's a sign of it beginning to go off, from being stored too long basically. I've had it happen and everyone I know that uses Milliput has too if they don't go through it quickly. Have to say I'm glad it does happen because it's one of the issues...

Jeff Shiu's Miniatures Fallschirmjager w/FG42 Normandy

Ooo that's nice! Might be just the angle of the photo but the face looks a bit long for my taste but lovely fig. Einion

Stripping paint & primer off resin figures

Thanks for that Ant. It is useful that a non-toxic option can do the job. Surprised by this, given how many people use it when they need to strip. Can you describe what went wrong? Isn't brake fluid very toxic though Gary? I was reading a thread on some other forum a couple of weeks back where...

    Vikings on the History Channel

Haven't seen it yet but it's probably safe to judge from other programs on History channel - take everything, clothing, equipment, weapons especially, as well as any buildings and other things in the environment, with a pinch of salt. Some things are dead-on, good enough that a museum would...

3D Printing -is that the end for sculpting?

I think that's a bit uncharitable, even going back to the T-Rex the modelling and animation could be good enough that you can't tell where the animatronics left off and the CG took over. More recently we have Hulk, Kong, the Tharks. They're not all exactly as good but I don't think it's...

What's the best way to make Gambions

Baking. It's an additional raising agent, when combined with baking soda it provides the acid to the soda's alkali; so for scones for example if don't have any buttermilk it'll help ensure a rise. It's also useful for stabilising beaten egg whites. I'm all for trying new things, I recommend it...
