    I'm finally doing it.

Thanks gents. Figurelover, that photo is great, thanks! I guess I could really go red with her. I wish I could claim credit for the tone, but it's Reaper fair skin, golden skin and red brick right out of the bottle. I got a bit more creative with the Monster's tone, some blues and green, I...

    WIP 1/16 Fallschirmjager

Thanks Adrian. I'm an armor modeler at heart, so the masking was the natural way to go for me. My next step would be a clear coat, then filters, washes and dry pigments. I may get brave and try to spray a filter like you suggest. I had the same reservation regarding the hard mask and folds...

    I'm finally doing it.

It's the angle, and yes there's warpage. Whether it's you or him remains to be seen. ;) Here's some better close ups. What's the best way to blend, go over it with oils or acrylic washes?

    I'm finally doing it.

Thanks Colin, I'll try to grab some better photos. I highlighted the bridge of the nose, forehead, chin, high cheekbones and pursing area around the lips. I thought the same about the hair, but references show Elsa as a green eyed auburn. I put a fair amount of reddish highlights in that 'do...

    WIP 1/16 Fallschirmjager

I'm trying my hand at camo patterns (and figure painting in general) with Jeff Shui's FS 42. I assembled with Aves (I know I should have painted first) then primer with Vallejo grey poly. I basecoated the smock with Panzer Aces Splinter base, masked and over sprayed with PA splotches I and...

    I'm finally doing it.

I've been meaning to get serious about painting for a while now, but the spare time has gone towards sculpting or kits instead. I have a pretty large line of Vallejo, some Reaper, Series 7s, oils, etc. and I'm no stranger to painting (non-figure) or airbrushing. I'm not really a beginner, but...

3D Printing -is that the end for sculpting?

I don't think the complexities of the human face will convincingly translate in a printable form, just like no matter how well the CG animation is done, it can't compare to a real object. For inanimate objects, absolutely and possibly clothing.

How Long Do I Have To Wait......

I couldn't agree more. I wish DML would either shrink 1/6 or expand 1/35, but there's a huge gap. Tamiya and DML both make 1/16 figs, you would think they'd bust out some vehicles too. Now that Hobby Boss and Trumpeter seem to be expanding the range, there might be hope. There's always...

    where to get...Cx5?

Hey Adam, Thanks for the tip. I used to make my own cap material so I could adjust flexibility, etc. if I was going to press texture afterwards, but these days I generally work in very small scale, so I seal with a few thin coats of Future (floor wax) airbrushed. My favorite primer is the newish...

    where to get...Cx5?

I ordered a pound as soon as I got the email that it was available weeks ago and received it a few days later. After about a hour of messing around with it in a double boiler, I immediately ordered 2 more pounds and the DVD as well as an electric skillet. My initial impression: I was astounded...

    where to get...Cx5?

Thanks, it sounds as good as is promised. I hope he gets the production sorted out so I can try it.

    where to get...Cx5?

Rob, How different is it from a microcrystalline wax? When cooled, is it carvable like an epoxy putty or is it more brittle? I love the idea of it, there are tons of options in terms heating out there, even making your own sculpting tools from small soldering irons would be feasible. The...

    where to get...Cx5?

I've been getting the emails too, I'm dying to hear what it's like, but the 'not what you expect' scares me a bit.

    Lighting

I use three different lights in my shop. For general work, a compact florescent in a posable lamp, for efficiency as well as to avoid slowly cooking myself with 100 watt incandescent. For painting, I use a daylight bulb and for photos, I use halogens scrimmed down with tuffspun. I caught an...

Completed Critique Early Attempt At Sculpting.

It helps to look at hands as segments of straight lines, including the palm and wrist. While fingers do curve, they curve in a very distinct and mechanical fashion, moving in unison along the length. It may be the photos, but I think you need to add more evidence of bone structure.

German Tank Crew With Leater Jacket

From what I understood, the black U-Boat leathers were surplused when the Kreigsmarine dictated that their men would wear grey leather, not black. I seem to recall that it was a small amount of non-issued sets discovered near the sub pens in France, then given to local armor units.

    My First Horse. 1/35

I think the pose is excellent. I really do know anything about equine anatomy, so I'm not sure of it's size or weight, but it looks like a young horse to me. Besides the exposed armature and lack of surface texture, I think you really have a good piece in the works.
