    Red Lancer 200mm

Nicely painted Mike. So much red. I'm sure you've had to order more red paint after finishing that beauty.

    Captain, ADC to Marshal Suchet.

Hi Ralph, I also agree with Tommi. You've made tremendous improvements in your painting recently and the evidence is right there to see. Detailed painting on the lacework is just one aspect. I also like the natural contrasts and skin tones on the face.

WIP Cornet George Wombwell 17 th Lancers

Hi Keith, I have this kit in my GA and seriously wondered how it would look when made up. Now I know. Great work mate. I particularly like the details on the waist band. The scratch built shako also looks great.

    Les Grognard 1/16th painting WIP

Kudos for getting to this point. Takes genuine artistic talent to be able to sculpt and then paint your own models. Following with interest.

    painting napoleonic braids and saddle

Danilo Cartacci has an excellent SBS on painting gold braid for Napoleonic figures in his book, Painting Miniatures, which doesn't use metallic but looks very realistic. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to paint miniature figures and busts.

    Completed MilMart flat Roman.

Excellent work Paul, you've actually made this look 3D which is a real challenge. I like the work on the helmet and cheek guards too.

WIP Critique Napoleon bust, Young Miniatures

Hi Nap, Yes, mojo issues are a common complaint for all of us. Thanks for the boost mate. Hi Tony, painting the thousands of tiny dots does actually becomes quite tiring on the eyes and after an hour I need a break. Glad you like me progress. Hi Terry, thanks mate. Yes, I try to get at...

WIP Critique Napoleon bust, Young Miniatures

Hi guys, I've been having some mojo issues lately and so my productivity levels aren't what they normally are. I'm still plugging away on old Boney here, and trying to get the highlights and shadows on his overcoat looking right, while also creating a texturing effect through pointillism. I'm...

WIP Critique Napoleon bust, Young Miniatures

Thanks very much Nap, Chris, Guy, Chris, Andrew, Phil and David. Guy I paint in oils over acrylics, which means my initial paint job is in acrylics, and then I tend to apply a series of oil washes over the acrylics. The arms and hands are now added and the bust complete, but still a long way...

WIP Critique Napoleon bust, Young Miniatures

Thanks for your comments Tony, Marc, John, Terry, Antonio, James, Guy and Paul. They are greatly appreciated as always. Most of you seem to support my choice of heads too, which is pleasing. So, last night I painted the medals and shoulder braiding in preparation for adding the collar and...

WIP Critique Napoleon bust, Young Miniatures

Hi James, It's only my opinion, but the alternate head just doesn't look good to me, whereas the one I've chosen has a determined look about him which I like. Maybe its the painting job done for the box art, or maybe its the sculpting, but I just didn't like it. It might actually be a...

    Stippling technique

I'd recommend that you read the WIP threads posted here by Mike Butler and Jason Zhou. Both gents have prepared detailed explanations of how they paint the "pointillism" style in acrylics, which is often incorrectly described as stippling. The master of stippling you should study is Hardy...
