    thanks everyone, I made the shell first, let it harden and then did the detailing in 4 parts (front/sides/back/ rims etc) so didn't have any problems.

    thanks Gordy, I've got a tiny wire brush I made out of copper electrical wire and a brass tube, to make the stubble I sort of dug in and flicked the polymer clay lightly. regards

    Hi, thanks for the comments, I just prefer sculpting headgear sep I suppose :) , its a natural break and as the shako as a few fragile bits on it will make casting a little easier. I'd also thought about making another soldier with the same shako. A choice of headgear would be easy...

    Its easy to sort out their real scale, how high are their heads? (from chin to top of head)

    Thanks Steven, I was amazed at how much variation their uniforms went through. This one is from 1837-40 I'm looking forward to seeing some paint on him.
