My latest commission project is the 1/35th scale version of (not) Captain America by Royal Model. A few have been covered already on PF so I sort of knew what I was in store for. To get better acquainted with the subject, I watched the movie. I noticed a few deviations in details, both on the figure and within the movie itself. With the figure, I don't know if these details were deliberately fudged to avoid copyright issues or not, but they bothered my enough to correct or improve on a few things. There has been some discussion about the folds and creases on the leather jacket, I decided that it wasn't as wrong as some had made out. When new, his jacket looks to be made of really soft leather so it would wrinkle a lot more than say a biker's jacket made of heavier leather. The folds are a bit sharp so you could soften them up a bit.

I added straps and goggles to the helmet, there should be two chin straps and the goggles aren't quite the same but close enough. I fixed the rips and tears on the shoulders as I though this was overdone, moved the shield to his back with straps. Added a belt/strap with pouches to his front, again not quite right but the spares box has what the spares box has, it also provided the holster on his hip. I removed the 45 grip and hollowed out the flaps because the gun was lost during a scuffle in the film. Thigh straps were added to tie it down, and a simple base made to loosely recreate the scene where he returns triumphantly to base. The base is the clear lid of some food product or other filled with plaster to make it rigid.

The head is tacked on, the figure and boom are also tacked in place and will be painted separately, which explains the slightly weird lean of the figure and those parts. Hoping to get things primed tomorrow.

Hi Kimmo

Nice to see you on another project and one lucky customer

Like the addition of the barrier

Look forward to seeing more on this

Happy benchtime

Cheers Nap! I consider myself fortunate to have people willing to part with cash to have me paint stuff for them.

Finally got something to show for with this one. I actually have two projects on the go, which is very unusual for me because of space limitations. Anyway, base coats are down, and a bit of preliminary work done with the base. I really like Orange Brown as a base for orangey leather, this should give me a few options on how to proceed.

Progress will be slow for the time being because I want to break out the wet palette to do both projects at the same time as they share so many colours.

Finally got around to some work on this. The first session has been about getting the shading sorted out on the jacket and pants.I started out adding Sunny Skin Tone to the Orange Brown, but quickly realised that would be too bright. I used a bit of Pale Sand and US Tank Crew Highlight to tone it down a bit and the latter gives you a nice untreated or worn shade. Burnt Umber and Black for basic shading, glazes aplenty.

The lighting is a bit harsher than I would like, but I have it set for my other project and don't want to fiddle with it right now. The subtleties are slightly blown out because of this, but it shows the brushwork to good effect. This is a highly detailed sculpt and will keep you painting for quite some time, tons of tiny folds and wrinkles. In 75mm you could really go to town.

More progress today. The jacket and pants are basically done, and the rest of the details are pretty close too.

Now the fun can switch over to the shield and the head.

Cheers Nap! It's a slightly condensed scene from the movie The First Avenger, not a bad kill some time movie if you're into super hero action flicks.

Just about done with the figure. I couldn't get any shots between sessions, too much stuff on the bench again. I cheated slightly by using decals for the stars, I did try freehand but realised it was not going to work how I wanted. The jacket was given a glaze with inks to bring up the saturation levels, I'll see what it looks like when fully dry tomorrow.

And we're done. I finished off the base, redid the barrier stripes and took some boudoir shots which can be found in the gallery here: https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/kepn.301772/

A teaser of the final scene.

I have to give some props to Rosemary & Co, I used a Series 33 (Kolinsky) and a couple of Series 93 (sable) brushes for this project. Excellent quality, and really reasonable prices to boot. The 93 is a spotter, which seems just a titch longer and fuller than say the WN 7, and noticeably more affordable. I will have to pick up the Kolinsky version to see how much better it handles compared to the sable. The regular sable is pretty darn good for blending and working out volumes so I am quite optimistic that the Kolinsky will be that much better. The 33 is a touch long for my tastes, but not as long as comparable types, and at the price, I will make the effort to get used to the length. Thanks to those who followed along and commented.
