Shades of CSgt Bourne here? :D This boy is coming along fine isn't he? I look forward to seeing him finished.
Scotty.

Hi Scotty,
Thanks you, it's a challenge for me both in scale and subject. Can't wait to get back to the Victorian soldiers.
cheers
Richie

Great work so far...

Hi Smithy,
Thank you mate.

Hi Richie, this is looking really good so far and is a lovely idea, I'm sure your friend will appreciate it.

Just to reassure you (I hope) I'm pretty sure you're going the right way with the kit - the body armour and uniform should be desert DPM. The body armour is the earlier Osprey that had the plate on the outside of the kevlar and the zip at the top. That dates it to before 2010 by which point they had a slightly updated version with a seam at the top of the plate holder and a big flap at the bottom, basically because blasts were throwing the zip and plate into peoples faces. After that they moved the plate inside the kevlar vest. The first time MTP (multicam type camo) was issued wholesale was when 4 Bde came out in 2010, I'm pretty sure they had the new body armour too so MTP with that pattern of body armour was a pretty rare look - probably confined to the few of us on an overlapping tour who managed to scrounge new uniforms.

The caveat to that is if you want to put him in Sangin where it was de rigueur to wear temperate DPM tops with desert bottoms because of the vegitation. That and the fact that the set of pouches most people got were pretty poor so they replaced them, the ones on the figure look like private purchase ones which would probably be a single colour in green or tan. The radio pouch would probably be desert or very faded DPM. Mind you, there was a certain 'anything goes' attitude in some AOs so pretty much any combination would probably work. Poking around on youtube, this video seems to be the right era if you need a kit reference:

I hope that helps.

Hi All,
I have finished this alien piece, honestly I have given it my best effort in this scale. The piece has been given to my neighbour Debbie who was overwhelmed and now sits proudly by the photo of her brother Neil Measor who sadly passed away in his 40's.
A few photo's of the model, one of Debbie aft

er I handed her the model, one of me & Debbie and one in pride of place.

Loved doing this for a lovely neighbour.

Hi Richie,
as an old Sapper myself thank you so much for creating this for her. It will mean so much to her.
I picked his wonderful hobby back up when I left the military as I was advised for my mental health to pick up something that would need concentration (this makes your mind focus on better things).
Lest we forget. Ubique.

Now you can get back to Scarlet jackets and martini henry's!
