Using Mitches Military Models excellent Falklands bust as a starting point, I swapped heads with another MMM figure, (Hero of the Soviet Union) that I bought second hand and am converting it to a Gurkha wearing the ubiquitous cold weather hat. I'm relying on pics on the internet for reference but think i have a basic idea. I cut off the Russian hat, added a dollop of putty for the top part and scribed in the six panels. I then added the lower side/back piece and added a little texture to show the pile lining. I also added the lower front piece with a little texture showing. Tomorrow Ill add the big ear flaps in the down position and then the big front flap in the raised up position.
Im not sure the face needs any re-modelling; Im hoping it will look ethnically correct as it is. Im experimenting as I go so may change things.as I go along.
Obviously things look pretty rough at this point but I hope you can see what Im aiming for and please let me know if there are any errors. Cheers.

Hi there

Great idea for a conversion , CW cap is coming along nicely

Have yiu or will you alter the face ?

We see a painted camo torso in the background as well ......SBS piece or another conversion perhaps awaiting head ?

Following with interest

Happy benchtime

Not touched the face -not sure if I'll need to. The bust in the background is the one from Mookies (really nice btw) that I'm currently painting.

Wow -that looks a lot rougher up close than it does to my eyes. Lets call the face 75% done instead!

Obviously that's not the scale size for normal vision !

I like the colour tones you've got , a little bit more to do and with the teeth painted you will have that grin seen in pics of these troops from 1982

Look forward to more updates

Given it a once over to soften/blend a bit better. I will add a tiny bit of putty on the upper eye lids to match the lines painted.

Using a different shade of brown (AV Leather Brown) for the CW hat. Just the basic lines blocked in. I'm now already thinking of what Ill do for the Welsh Guards to complete a 5 Brigade trio.

Looking good so far Paul. Great to see that head being put to good use instead of languishing unloved in my stash!

I think you can get away with the face ethnicity-wise.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers guys. I think he has the Gurkha smile. On my desk, the flesh looks a softer brown than the pics. I was a quite surprised how dark he looked on the screen but the tones still fit well enough. Id like to do the eyes but after a little experiment earlier, I think Id better leave the sculpting to the sculptors.
