My latest project is a lovely US NCO by Alpine in 1/35th, brush painted as usual with Vallejos on a scratch built base. A full blog can be found here. I couldn't decide what photos to leave out, so you get the whole lot. Click for full versions.

Really nice painting and some mighty fine basing.Although a single figure,it tells a story much the same way a vignette would which speaks volumes of your ability to properly base and present figures.

Oda.

Superb. The amazing groundwork really tells the story using a single figure. Lovely stuff.

Lovely work.

You said you made the base from "foam". I often see references to just "foam" online and in books, but what type of "foam" are we talking about specifically, because I'm never really sure what people mean by it.

There are all sorts of "foam" and I would imagine that some are more suitable for creating bases than others.

Cheers Steve!

The foam I and most others use is basically insulation foam, XPS (extruded polystyrene). The stuff comes in different densities and colours and is available from home improvement stores in ginormous sheets and AK Interactive, among others, sell it in more manageable sizes. The lower density foam is great for terrain, and the higher density for making brick walls or cobblestone roads, for example. Each type takes a bit of getting used to as to how much detail they will hold, or how easy it is to shape.

Great work, love the snowy base you've made, it gives it a real sense of cold weather and works perfectly with the figure
