Hi All,
Does anybody have a 120mm scale horse for sale in their grey army. I preferably would like to see a photo to get an idea of the pose as I want to use the horse for a conversion.
cheers

Hi Steve mate,
I have looked at this, do you know if the saddle is moulded to the horse??? I want to use the horse to mount a converted 17th Lancer from the Zulu war. So I need to scratch the livery. You don't do old nags aswell as weapons do you!
cheers

Not sure if saddle is part of the horse but I am guessing it would dremmel off easily if so.
I try and avoid nags mate, get enough of that at home :)

Hi Lads,

Dan - I have attached a couple of poses that I really like. Yes I have a figure I am going to modify. How it's modified depends on the horse.

Steve - If I can't find what I want, I may buy your suggestion and get out the grinder if required.

Hans - Thanks for looking, what I am looking for is something more like the attached images.

cheers again
Richie

Hi Lads,
Thanks again for the information. Some food for thought.

Carl / Dan - Have you got first hand experience of the Dragon kits, do you know what the quality is like? I just remember old Airfix plastic kits and they looked plastic if you know what I mean. I may fork out on a Verlinden mounted kit, more expensive. Do you know if these are one piece moulds or 2 halves like the Dragon kit? There seems to be a bit of a gap in the market!

Hans - The tlb miniatures horse would certainly suit the second pose as would the Dragon kit. I think I will keep looking for a more dynamic pose.

thanks again
cheers
Richie

The Dragon kits are as good as you'll get with injection plastic Richie. With something like a horse I would say you'd be fine.
Carl.

Hello Richie,

Whats the time scale on this?

We are in negoitiations to have a mixed media white metal and resin 120mm Zulu War Lancer commissed for later next year, subject to the economic climate (because it is not cheap!).

The horse will be resin and we will place as much of the horse dressings on the horse body as possible, subject to casting considerations of course. I am sure we can provide one when done.

Terry

I've seen the Dragon kit on sale at a couple of model shows and took a peak in the boxes , and they look OK to me . There's a chap called Wellington Boot over on Miliatry Modeling web site whos has done a couple of the Miniart Napolionic mounted 120mm kits , they look good as well but he did say they needed a lot of filler .
The Dragon kit looks like it suits your needs and is well priced to play around with .(y)

Hello Lads,

Carl / "Chippy" thanks for the thumbs up about the Dragon and Miniart horse, I think I will plum for this and give it a go.

Terry - I have no set time scale as such, I was going to have a crack at this over the next couple of months. I may even attempt two mounted Lancers if I turn up a dynamic horse pose aswell. The equine part will be an interesting challenge for me.
I will certainly keep a look out for your Lancer if you get it off the ground, sound very interesting.
What about a range of mounted figures for the volunteer regiments such as Frontier Light Horse, Durban Mounted Rifles, Natal Mounted Police, Newcastle Mounted Rifles to name a few.

cheers
Richie

Hello Richie,
The chap we are talking to is a Victorian figure nutter in the nicest sense of the word and, given the nod, will produce a figure for just about every unit that was in the Zulu War plus a few that might have been. The reality is of course that, for example, a 120mm mounted NNC will almost certainly not cover its cost if done through conventional professional sculptors rates, especially as we would attract a lot of negative comments if we were to re-use the same horse for each figure - this works OK for toy soldiers but most members on this forum are probably not in this market. Now, having said that, we are still considering the options......! Look forward to seeing your work in progress and final figure
