Hello Everybody...

After my last project (a rather fancy 200mm bust), I've decided to do something a little less demanding for my next subject :)

This time, it's this nice little Korean Warlord from Pegaso. Despite the static pose and fairly straight ahead sculpting, he has some nice little details to take advantage of. This will be the first of 4 Korean subjects I'll be painting up (the other 3 are busts). It's nice because we see some nice samurai from Japan, and I've done some Chinese pieces (one of which I posted fairly recently - Guan Yu), but compared to China and Japan, we see almost no Korean subjects. My son is half-Korean, and a little while ago he asked me why I had no Koreans in the Gray Army, so I had to go and acquire some...
(it will also shut my ex-wife up who happens to be 100% Korean - but that's a different story ;))

Here is the kit cleaned, prepped and ready for assembly:

And here he is primed up and ready for paint:

I was able to get a little bit of preliminary work done yesterday, in order to make such a static pose a little more dramatic and mysterious, I decided to put the left side of his face and chest in a little bit more shadow than I usually would:

All things considered, I think I'll be able knock this guy out fairly quickly, and move onto the 5th and final bust in my series I've been doing from YS Masterpieces (it'll be Ali Pasha for those who have been following...)

Best regards,
Phil

Nice addition of character to him Phil..

.btw, as minor addendum tomyour excellent sbs using Golden..I can't get fluid matte here, so simply added some Vallejo matte medium to regular Golden fluid...works pretty well..and as you suggest, Golden takes to water thinning ...a bonus to the regular fluids..they come in small pots vs the matte variety so I've been able to play with a limited palette using a small set without breaking the bank...

Nice start Phil. Looking forward to seeing this one progress.
Strange that you should mention the lack of Korean subjects.
I'm currently working on a bust of a Korean Admiral (old Diorama Studios).

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Phil,
So now you're getting lazy and doing this, you're really letting yourself go ;).
Looks like a great subject and I know you'll do a fantastic job, looking forward to seeing the progress through to the completion stage.
Regards
Chris.

Thanks for the kind comments everybody - as always they're very much appreciated!
I haven't been able to respond as quickly as I would've liked to (or to everybody individually as I like), so I apologize for that!

Unfortunately, I haven't made any progress yet on the Warlord (been busy with everything except painting); however, I'll finally be able to get some work done on him tomorrow and post a proper update with some updated pics - wish me luck! ;)

Great news Phill, I am waiting for... :)

Cheers Borek

Thanks guys :)

So after a day of painting, I finally have the entire figure finished except the arms (and weapons). Of course the groundwork/basing will need to be done as well. It looks like he'll be finished off in one more session - which hopefully should be this weekend. I was also able to sneak a little bit of freehand on his pants - buts its a little hard to see in the pic

Here's a pic of today's progress:

Beautiful work.I like your attitude mate.A 16th century warlord from the Far East is anything but simple and yet you consider it to be a simple, straightforward deal!It only proves that you are a really advanced figure modeller (and all your works sofar attest to that).I also agree that Korea is much neglected by modellers.A land of centuries old history,a land of myriads of scholars and heroes (admiral Yi is but one of them but there are so many others like Chong Bal the heroic defender of Pusan or Kwak Chae-U the inspirational guerilla warlord to name a few),it deserves more attention. As usual I will follow this project too.

Oda.

Thanks Oda! The painting is all finished and I'm working on the base now. Should have the final pics posted in a day or two...
