As promised another bust of a Lancer.
This time I have added the flounders and other detail on the collar from Green stuff. I am pleased with the job so far.
So, meet 'Sandy' or Private 1500 Charles Rourke, he attested with the 16th Light Dragoons (lancers) on 11th December, 1840. Promoted Corporal March, 1858 and Sergeant January, 1862. He took his discharge in Colchester in 1865. At that date he had spent 24 years and 98 days with the Colours. He was listed as 5'9" tall with brown hair. He was in possession of 4 good conduct stripes. He was a veteran of the Battle of Aliwal in 1846.
Photograph taken in 1896, it is from part of a group, who had all survived the battle and taken to commemorate the 50th Anniversary.
My progress so far. The face is complete, painted in oil and the uniform, etc have been undercoated in acrylics.
