Really enjoying what you are doing with this figure and your SBS. Hope you will have this bust ready for Sword and Lance as I would love to see it in the flesh.
Lovely bust indeed and very nice painting so far.

Don

Steve, Carl and Don .... Thank you :) Still here and plugging away at it :)

Okay sort of a fuzzy SBS here as I side stepped myself a little :)

Whites...

A. Base coated with GW Codex Grey
B. Blocked in the basic white with AV Offwhite
C. Highlighted with AV White
D. Transitions softened with Offwhite
E. Shadows worked with Offwhite mixed with Codex Grey 1:1
F. Repeated steps C to E about 3 times to get the whites and greys nice and solid.

Buttons and Button holes .....

A. The Buttons and the decorative twists were Base coated along with the rest of the front
E. Re-touched with Codex Grey and a fine thin line was was run around the edges with thinned Codex.
F. the twists on the button holes were picked out with Offwhite and the top runs were given a second coat.
The buttons were picked out with silver printers inks mixed with a touch of lamp Black oil paint, the following day the silver was highlighted with The ink mixed with the carrier from an enamel based metallic. I repeated the highlight 24 hours later.

Also at this stage I painted the lace at the collar, still needs a little more work I think..

And finally I blocked in the silver lace on the Pelisse and started to block in it's Fox fur edging .....

:)

Hope that all makes sense.....

Hi Mate,

so many projects you have the same time and all are so beautiful and well detailed.
Following...

Got to see this at the weekend and it looks so much better up close without the camera lighting etc

Superb mark

Thanks for the positive input everyone :)

Anyway I'm on the last stretch with this piece now and only the reds SBS to sort out ( finally! :) )

Two combined SBS here ....

Fur trim

A + B. "dry" brushed several layer of AV Offwhite.
C. Washes of Burnt Umber to pop the detail
D. Washes of Codex Grey to soften the effect.
E. Picked out the details with Offwhite
F. Final details picked out in White.

Silver Lace

A + B. Highlighted the Codex Grey base colour with Offwhite
C. Highlights with Silver printers ink ( well thinned ).
D + E. Washes of enamel Black followed by re painting the silver.

The buttons are as previously shown except the final steps included a soft black wash, removed after it had dried with a thinners moistened cotton bud.

I. shows the work started on the sash and belt

:)

Cheers Ken :)

Reds.....

This is just my way of doing it, the main thing for me is avoiding white in the mix as it just goes pink. So I use a nice bright orange! with Burnt umber as the shader... anyhoo steps ...

A. Primer with the hand painted
B. AV Burnt Umber sprayed as the base colour, notice the Blu-Tac to mask off the hand..
C. GW Blood Red sprayed from above and at about 45' too.
D. GW Blazing Orange sprayed just from above.
E + F. Using conventional hair brushes I worked over the tops of creases and fold to sharpen it all up ..

This is pretty much finished now :)

Thanks for all the comments and input and I hope some of the SBS sequences are useful to some one :)

Great Mark!
Indeed it's gorgeous and brilliant.
Indeed the fresh tone and beauty of the jacket are excellent.
And thank you very much for your in-depth SBS.
There were very much parts for me to learn.

Mitsutaka.

Guys,
All I've seen are pictures of a frog in a cube, what should I do to see the real pictures.
Thanks

Mark
Thanks for the time and effort you put into this SBS, mate. Even as a die-hard oil painter, I am always enthralled by the effect others can achieve with different mediums. Luverly work(y)(y)
