Red Five
A Fixture
I've been picking away at Mitches Military Models 200mm full figure Colonel Douglas of the 11th Hussars for the past few weeks. So far I have a number of uncompleted parts.
All parts were carefully prepared and tested for fit which I might add was very good. Some parts were gued together with epoxy resin and filled with white Milliput. They were then washed in detergent and left to dry overnight.
Next I airbrushed Alclad white micro filler primer over the parts. Any imperfections were corrected and resprayed until a perfect smooth finish was achieved.
Next I airbrushed the base colours with Tamiya acrylics which were applied in thin coats.
Next the painting starts.
Starting with the pelisse.
I used a Prussian blue oil thinned with Titanium white and shadows with lamp black. Liquin medium was used to speed up the drying time. The colours were blended carefully so as not to offer too much contrast. After 48 hours the pelisse was touched up increasing or decreasing highlights/shadows as necessary. After another three days I applied a flat Alclad laquer to remove the shine and protect the paint.
I then roughed out the ermine fur with a dark grey Tamiya acrylic. Next I picked out the gold lace with a dark acrylic gold. All golds from Citadel. Next I picked out highlights and increased shadows with lighter golds and acrylic dark brown washes which is where I am now. The front is nearly done more minus picking out the weave and making the buttons stand out.
Ermine fur next almost entirely in acrylics.
