Here is the finished head/hat. I mixed Magicsculpt with some green putty to use on the hair and slightly visible haversack. Also note the 1st corps badge on the front of the hat.

amazing work in the expresion Gary, did you use DURO for the green putty? I guess this is the best putty for small areas? I ask because I don't know to much about sculpt and putty...

Ernesto, thank you. Yes the putty is like DURO. It came in a yellow and blue ribbon that you mix together.

Hey Gary,

Looks good except for one thing  Your haversack is boring, like all the others that are usually out there. ;) I think you should add something inside of it like you have on so many of the others that I have had the pleasure to paint. :) You do this really well and I think it would be really cool to see it on a Civil War figure, Just my little bit but I really like the face and beard.

Joe, I plan on doing a little more with the haversack. the figure will also have a blanket roll in addition to a canteen that will both cover a small portion of the haversack. I wanted to first wait for the green putty (Duro) to cure 24 hours before resuming the work.~Gary

A few views of the blanketroll. I combined some Duro (don't think that's the name, it's green putty anyways) and Aves. There were a few areas I wanted to fill out more, hence the white portions which are straight duro.

The full figure. I wanted to keep the figure's physical build very thin.

Gary,

Nice to see you getting some more sculpting done besides the hand SBS!

I was wondering about your mix of Duro and Aves. I've used plain Duro before but it was a 'first time right or bust' medium for me because I could not shape/sand it after it had cured. Is this the same for the mix? I'm thinking of your fondness of carving cured putty.

Do you only use the mix for better visibility by introducing color to the putty or because of other properties?

Sorry to bombard you with questions like this

Marvin, I mix the two putties mainly because the white of the Aves putty makes it very hard to see my work. It's easier to see where your tools are leaving marks when it's colored. The properties of the two combined work well also. My mix is about 60-70% Aves to 30-40% Duro (Green Putty).~Gary
