My latest project is needing more figures, only thing is they are 40mm American Civil War, Wargames Foundry, which are out of production and like hens teeth from what I can see. Even Ebay has drawn up a blank, so my question to people here is does anyone have any spare or surplus preferably unpainted?
If this is the wrong section to post this, then sorry.
I know of Sash and Sabre 40mm ACW who are available, but I need Wargames Foundry.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Michael

Michael, I believe the Foundry figures were/are 28mm in size not 40mm. You may want to try PERRY MINIATURES. Not too long ago they started an American Civil War line that also includes two (2) plastic sets, one of Infantry and another of Cavalry. Although the infantry set are wearing sack coats the option of forage caps OR slouch hats lets you decide to make them Union or Confederate. ~Gary

Yes I have already seen Drabants 40mm, not the best they have done in my opinion. Anyhow they must be Foundry to keep style the same.
I actually phoned Foundry yesterday in the off chance that they might have some lying around, which they didn't.
They did give me an interesting piece of info though, they intend to re release the 40mm line sometime next year:)
If anyone has any for swap or sale please let me know.

It looks like I am the only one who bought any of these figures then?
I have had no response at all on this, so if no one can help with the actual figures?
My question is does anyone know how many of these figures were made, types etc? Or even if someone has a price list from way back they could copy it for me to see?
Thanks in advance Michael

Hi Michael,

There is an old ad in Military Modelling for the figures, October 1991, it lists 41 figures Infantry and artillery along with a Napoleon 12 pound field gun. There were mounted cavalry figures brought out later but I dont have a list for them. The Figures were 95p at that time and the cannon £4.90p. I'll compile the list for you later and post it here.

Brian

Yes it does help Brian.
Much appreciated and many thanks, I had been going through old magazines trying to find something similar but with no results.
If you do decide to swap or sell them let me know.
I do vaguely remember reading or being told that there were a couple of personalities as well, not sure though.
I also have a couple of the cavalry figures, which are nicely sculpted.
As for people saying they are chunky, they are not, apart from the gun crew which are slightly, compared to rest, maybe done on purpose. (I have gun crew and a cannon).
Going by your list these were not the cheapest to buy in 1991, hence I only have a few and not many others buying them.

Thanks again Michael

Hi again Michael,

I know they done a mounted Robert E Lee, which I have. I think they also done a mounted U.S. Grant too I only have a dead figure lying on his back, two wounded sitting slumped one which I converted, an officer with sword some of the Artillery crew with the cannon and a couple of mounted cavalry. I also have been looking on Ebay for more, but like you said they are like hens teeth. I look forward to them being re-released so I can add to my collection. I also have some of the Sash & Sabre figures, but I prefer the Wargames Foundry figures.

Brian

Brian,

Hello again,

Thanks again for info, are your figures painted? If not, I know you said you wanted to keep them, but I'll ask again. Are you willing to swap or sell them?
No problems either way, if you don't ask you dont get.
I have hundreds of other wargames figures and larger models, I have even bought the latest Perry plastic ACW Infantry, which are nice, but I will never paint them. I don't do plastic.

Anyhow out of curiosity do you ever frequent SKELP or TARGE? I am not a wargamer myself, I am only into painting the figures.

Michael

Hi Michael

My figures are all painted and on display bases, except Lee and a mounted cavalry figure. I'm sorry but I do not wish to part with them. I am not a wargamer but my eldest son is, I also bought the Perry figure but ended up giving him the figures, my eyes sight is not the best for painting in that scale. I have not been to either Targe or Skelp yet as I am usually working when they are on. I have been to Cannonade in Falkirk and Claymore in Edinburgh. The modelling club I was in used to have a display at Claymore. Have you thought of converting the Perry Miniatures 40mm Penninsula range to A.C.W., I have done a couple.

Brian

Brian,

No, I never thought of that. I took another look at the Perry Peninsular figures on web page, it seems an awful lot of work to convert them.
Which ones did you convert and have you any photos? I would be interested to see them. I have only painted one of their Peninsular range, the British Drummer boy.
The Front Rank AWI 40mm are nice also, I bought the US Continental range and only managed to paint about 6 before getting bored with them. The American War of Independance does nothing for me, even after watching The Patriot for inspiration.
If you change your mind about figures or you know of anyone else having them spare please let me know.

Michael

Hi Michael,

The figures I converted were the Spanish Line Infantry Drummer advanvancing to a Confederate drummer and British Light Infantryman, wounded lying on back to Union private.
I only done uniform conversions so it was pretty straight forward. I don't have any photo's yet, I'll get around to it someday.

Brian

Brian,

Thanks for your input, will keep an eye out for your pics.
If and when Foundry do re-release these figures! I'll hate to see the selling prices.
Anyhow may see you around, Michael
