This is the second of Mick's Mick's discontinued "V" busts of the five I purchased.

He is the Kettle Drummer, not that you would know with this type of bust apart from the Aiguillettes from his shoulder, from the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards 1884.

This time I started with painting the base colour on the helmet and chinstrap after the eyes were done.
The rest of the face and neck were then painted in Artist's oils, I will now leave this for the paint to harden off before blocking in colour to the uniform.

Again a super bust to paint.

Hi Geoff.
Looking good mate, Not sure if I am jumping the the gun but the plume is black over white.
Mick

Many thanks Mick, yes I haven't done anything with the plume yet as it is handy to hold or rest on my hand while painting so it will probably be one of the last thing I paint. Of course the plume is also the difference for the kettle drummer in addition to what I said earlier.

Cheers

I can't keep up with you Geoff, apparently there is a world shortage of resin bust's as someone from Devon keeps buying them.

Nice one and keep em coming.
( I've just got the Sgt 6th Inniskilling Dragoon 1901, full bust) so I can join you.

Nice Bob and thanks, don't forget Nap is a Devon boy now as well.
The 6th Inniskilling is a super bust, I was tempted with the full bust previously, might still get one even though I have the "V" one, I will look forward in seeing yours.

Cheers

Another coat done on the helmet, also the shadow areas on the tunic, collar and epaulettes base colours

P1130713 (2).JPG

Added the helmet base colour to the Pearl medium and applied

P1130714 (2).JPG

And neat Pearl medium to the star and 4

P1130715 (2).JPG

Citadel Earth wash applied to the helmet detailing, when dry I shall highlight with the Green Ochre and Pearl medium mix.

That's it for now Sunday Lunch is nearly ready by the lovely smell coming up the stairs and a cider is calling me.

Cheers
Geoff.

Hi Geoff

No doubt you enjoyed the cider and lunch .....

You obviously havectgem piece in front of you thought helmet looked good but the AK certainly are more metallic ...will you shade and highlight further ?

Good basecolour on the red

Medals are looming .....

Lunch great thanks Nap.
I am certainly happier with the metallic look on such a big area, my method using Pearl medium is OK for smaller bits. I knew you would ask about shade and highlighting and yes I am doing to do it today, just wanted to be sure the metallic was dry before doing it.

I have just given the base another thinner coat and he looks better. The colour I used was Vallejo MC 947/029 Dark Vermillion, if you are interested, I shall highlight using Scarlet.

Medals will be one of the last to detail mate, but might block in later today as Helen gone to Exeter so no interruptions until about 4.00

Cheers
Geoff
