54mm American War of Independence figures

I would like to try my hand at painting some 54mm figures from the American War of Independence, but am having some difficulty finding some. I am primarily interested in colonial regulars or militia, might eventually branch out to the British figures as well. Is there a company which has a selection of such miniatures? I would appreciate any help very much. Thank you!

The largest selection of AWI figures, and it is huge, is unfortunately quite old. Imrie/Risley figures sold by the Saratoga Soldier Shop are a pioneer figure firm dating to the 1960's. Their line includes militia, Continentals, British line, cavalry, Hessians, artillery, the whole war. The figures themselves are pretty out of date in terms of detail but are anatomically in order (as opposed to anatomically correct!) and the uniforms are correct. I would take a peek and see what you think. Replacement of heads and hands with more current and attractive versions is an option. 'Luck!

PEGASO MODELS do a very nice mini dio depicting a mounted British Dragoon in action with 3 standing AWI colonial militia. The set is cast in 54mm & white metal.

It's a great starting price for 3 foot and one mounted figure as well!

Michael Roberts Ltd (mentioned above) has a great selection of AWI figures in a variety of sizes/scales. Highly recommended.
Another option is the Trident line of 40mm figures. At USD3.50 a copy, and with over 700 different figures with more on the way, this line has just about everything anyone could want. The sculpting is good, the value is excellent, and there are opportunities for head swaps and different hands/weapons/arms for some of the figures. Doug at Miniature Service Center is the merchant behind the line (Sean Judd is the sculptor, I believe), and is very easy to deal with.

Most companies have made a couple of AWI figures here and there.You just have to check them all out.

Matt, thanks for the reminder of the new Anders Heintz figure from Model Cellar. I also got one of the pre-production copies at MFCA, and it is an excellent figure. For me, the best part is that you could give this to 10 painters, and it is likely each would deliver a different color combination. I hope to see a lot of these on the tables soon, and in an array of different uniforms.
In addition (and I hope I'm not spilling beans here), Paul had a second Anders work-in-process AWI sculpt at his table, which hopefully will soon be available.
In addition to the Trident 40s, mention should be made of the abundance of figures available in 28mm from Perry Miniatures, Eureka from Australia, Foundry (sculpted by the Perrys), and others. I know that 28s are not for everybody, but the ability to do vignettes and dioramas is well met by these producers. And AWI seems to be a wargaming period of strong interest, which certainly helps to encourage sculptors and producers to continue to offer product.
Lastly, there are also large selections of 54-60mm prepainted figures in the marketplace from producers such as John Jenkins, Britains, King & Country, etc.

And therefore not cheap!

Yes they are not cheap but as a collector who can't paint the side of a barn by the time I buy a kit and get it painted it cost about twice as much as one of these figures.I don't collect these as my area of interest is the French-Indian War period (yes there is a difference)but if they put out any woodland indians I will probably buy them.

Mark, I hope you know that Jenkins and King&Country both do extensive FIW lines. The figs are excellent, and you get good value considering the sculpting and level of paintjobs.
