Apart from painting busts and figures, I'm also a Wargamer and I like the big scales (54mm and 60mm).

My favourite range is the Expeditionary Force figures from Singapore.

I'm collecting Macedonian and Persian armies, but they Don't produce elephants yet.

I therefore bought a Schlieff toy elephant and got my friend Steve Ledley (known by many of you) to help me build the war elephant. Thanks Steve.

Steve sculpted the cloth and made the howdah for me and fixed a figure at the front for the mahout (my modelling and converting skills are useless).

Here is the work in progress. I now have to paint the figures to go in the howdah and the support figures to go on the ground to protect the elephant.

Coming along nicely, Dave. I could have gone to town on the harnessing and attachments, but I had to balance up being able to stand up to handling on the table, so this was simplified, a little!(y)

I admire the creativity to get a war gaming figure in the scale you want. The equipment and trappings on the elephant look great. The figure looks a bit large in relation to the elephant. However, I'm basing that off of pictures rather than real life examples. Looking forward to seeing more!

Hi Slowpainter.
Yes, the figure is perhaps a little larger than it should be, but now the howdah is fixed, it doesn't look too bad, and I have to work with what I've got.
Steve (Valiant) did an incredible job getting the figure to fit the elephant as it was really meant to go on a horse.
How he did it I'll never know , but he's done a great job
