Hi Folks

This is my latest figure that I have been painting. It’s the new 75mm Standard bearer from Pegaso Models I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and have been working on it every since the day it arrived.

Nearly getting to the end of painting all the small bits ready to glue on. The Fleur De Lys on the flag are taking a long time and I have only completed one side and am still yet to paint the trimming round the edge, the pole and the cross on the top. Everything is painted in oils .

Just working on the weathering at the moment on the main figure, hope to have the rest of the painting finished by the end of the week, this has been an enjoyable figure to paint. Sorry for the bad photos but this is just something that I can’t master.

Hi All

Thanks for all your kind comments. I am really looking forward to getting this one finished and glued together. Got back into the swing of things with the painting after several years off and am happy with how it’s turning out. This is the first bit of heraldry that I have painted for about ten years but it just learning to be patient and logical about the whole process. The white was quite enjoyable to paint and I just love painting red although it does not show up to well on the photos. I will post up the final result once I have finished then I can get back to the other half finished projects.

HI Tommi, you are really getting up to speed in leaps and bounds. Great work mate.

HI Hardy

Yep, very pleased with the progress on this one although the photos do not do it justice. Its just a case of keep painting and learning, may catch up with you at euro this year.

Tommi,
the Fleur De Lys on the flag are outstanding. Well proportioned and well rendered for sure. I also like the weathering on the lower cape. Nice subtle shading on the reds. I have one small comment on the whites though, they look to me like they need more shadow tones just to make them pop a tiny bit more. As you mention, it could be the photos though. Over all a very sharp piece. Your skills were merely in hiberntion over your hiatus. They obviously just needed to get back to action! Keep it up.

Hi Jay

I totally agree with you on your comments about the shadings in the white from looking at the photos but I think a lot of the problem is the lighting and the flash on the camera which seems to make it all a bit bland looking. I was very pleased how the shadows and highlights came out on the cape but it just looks red on the photos. Once I have it finished I will take some more images in natural daylight.

Cheers

Tommi,

I am guessing that you outlined the heraldry with pencil? If so, I would really enjoy seeing a pic of your stencil!

Hi

The heraldry on the chest of the main figure and shield is freehand. The Fleur De Lys on the flag is done with a piece of low adhesive masking film.

The design is drawn on with a fine permanent marker then cut out with a sharp scalpel blade, put in place then a quick blast with an airbrush in a dull yellow gives the shape of the stencil and leaves no hard edge and dries in a very short time, the process is repeated until the desired pattern is complete.

You then have the task of painting each one individually and putting in the shadows and highlights, you need to make sure you put a spare day of your life to one side for this. Of course before you do this you need to paint the main background colour of the flag with all the shadows and highlights.

The red and white chequered pattern on the top of the helmet and the rear drape is freehand in humbrols then over painted in oils. The helmet is done but the piece that is attached at the rear (see top picture) is only undercoated and needs the oils painting in which takes longer than the flag.

Hi Tommi,
Did, you use FriskFilm as a low adhesive film ???
If you did not, what did you use ???
Can you made a SBS with your next figure specially for the heraldic ??

marc

Hi Mark

I just used a piece of transparent air brush masking film which works very well and gives a nice sharp edge when painting in the colour. I purched a big roll of it from ebay, there is more on the roll than I could ever use in my lifetime.

I would be happy to make and SBS with my next figure if you can tell me what this means.

Cheers
Tommi
