Made a start on the kilt. My first attempt at tartan...ever. I should've picked an easier one methinks :(

Only done the front for now and no shading, highlights, weathering etc. I think it looks a bit shabby but maybe I'll be able to tidy it up a bit as I go.

I wish my hands weren't as shaky, maybe I'd do better after a few beers.

Coming along very nicely Billy.
Try not to make the tartan too bright. The Cameron set is busy in terms of the number of colours but quite dark in appearance, as in your picture of the kilt. Maybe a dark wash or two once you have completed it.
Looking good though, I do like this figure.
Cheers,
Keith

I agree with Keith.
A controlled wash of dark blue to unite all the colours.
You couldn't have picked a harder tartan for your first.:cautious:
Looking good though.(y)

Thanks for the replies Keith and Carl, great minds think alike as that's exactly the approach I was gonna take. I just thought I'd try and get the basic tartan laid out first to see how difficult it was. To be honest I rushed it a bit so I might even repaint it and spend a bit more time and lavish a bit of extra care on it (from start to finish I spent about 2 hours on it)

Has no-one ever thought of using a decal for tartan, hmmm, could be a business opportunity there ;)

Cheers,

If Carl told me it was raining I'd look out the window after the whole "Go on Steve put some icicles on it, they're dead easy" debacle  Braver man than me Billy mate

A little more progress, I reunited his body with his head and the earth. He's starting to come together now but he still looks a bit messy when viewed in close up, for some reason my camera won't focus properly on the figure when macro is switched off. I know absolutely nothing about taking pictures and my camera is just a point n shoot affair (and not even an expensive one) but he looks a lot better at normal viewing distance without a magnifying glass, trust me.

Anyhoo, thanks for looking (y)
