I have been wracking my brains with this one, but for the life of me a cannot find a decent 90mm Mounted figure, of any, 'British Cavalry', ... I would love the, 'Scots Greys',.. but that is in 54mm! Does anyone have ant leads?

Thanks guys! .. I may well scrap the search! .. I looked at 120mm, but Mounted is a bit large for my allocated display area! .. (see wife)... Frustrated-Woman-Baker-1059865.jpg I just find it a bit odd that, their is so much choice, from the, Napoleonic, French aspect! in 90mm! from lots of manufacture's,... but nothing about the British, Prussian, Austrian! etc. .. I know, www.bonapartesmilitarymodels.co.uk do a Hanovarian Dragoon! with horse, which is nice, but un-mounted! ... I just find it all very strange! :(

Ooops that's the French Hussar! scroll up to the Hanoverian!... but I do like the Hussar as well:D

This is interesting as I am looking at producing a mounted and have considered british.
The question of 90mm is a dilemma as would it sell, particularly now the 120mm seems the new 90.
Obviously the big contenders do produce 90mm but I wonder if a lot of sales are as they are all metal and cater for the traditional figure modeller.
The question is really would a 90mm resin mounted figure sell or is it not best and safe to just go 120mm in today's market.
The prices would be considerably less of course than the mainstream due to being resin but a certain market would be needed to get a return.
Be interested to hear.
Best wishes

Hi Graham, Dave Freeman seems to be churning out 90mm figures successfully so I don't think this would detract from sales if the subject was right. 120mm is OK in foot figures and obviously extremely popular but 120mm mounted would be extremely large and fill cabinets very quickly. IMHO 90mm is the better scale for larger Mounted figures.

Wasn't David Grieve proposing to release a 90mm mounted British Napoleonic in his Great Little army series?

I think I'd tend to agree with Keith in that the scale 90mm/120mm isn't as important as the subject.

I didn't know that Geoff, I do have the Queen on Burmese master and had considered with some reworking using that for a 110mm mounted figure, strange scale I know but that is the size it is refered to as being.
That said it would be big as mentioned.

I've been trying to remember where I saw a reference to the proposed David Grieve mounted cavalryman. I think it might have been in an interview with him in Figure International. Unfortunately a couple of years ago I had to dispose of every magazine I had so I can't check this out.

Thanks Gra! .. Clearly any manufacturer has to weigh up, the sale and viability/feasibility, of any given new subject! .. I also agree with both Keith, and Geoff, as regards subject matter over scale. However, scale does play a big part in a prospective purchase. (Where do you put it). However! if we look at both scales of, 90 & 120mm! British/Prussian/Russian/Austrian Cavalry of the Napoleonic period are very thin on the ground. It's all French !

But there in may lie the reason! ... The French had a much, more Flamboyant uniform, than most! .. A French, Hussar/ Cuirassier/Chasseur, against a 'Life Guard'/ Scots Grey/Dragoon! even all of the late Ray Lambs work with poste militaire, was all French! So I was just wondering, when this French dominance, would be countered.

Edit! .. Gra!... I for one cannot see any reason, why Resin cannot or should not be used. Granted, I have a few Poste Militaire mounted 90mm. in white metal. But have to be conscious of the pose! ... as the more dynamic, such as rearing up! .. invariably may lead to collapse due to the weight. Resin would not suffer from this dilemma. Hence I have ordered the French Hussar!!! from Bonapartes! see earlier link.

I think you are right Mark, excluding the Tartan Army, British Uniforms are pretty boring and you probably only need about a 5 colour Palette to paint them all. Most other countries have more colour variety in their uniforms as opposed to distinction by Number. Although Prussians are Blue, Swiss are Red, Austrians are White, Russians Green etc, there is tremendous variety within the uniforms of these countries which makes them more interesting than the British Regiments.

I'm not a uniform expert so this is just my very broad brush opinion, I'm sure plenty out there will disagree with me.

However, we still had some highly visual uniforms! .. eg. thCA4U886U.jpg.7th-hussars.jpg.1-6-12-Did-N80058-Napoleonic-British-Army-15th.jpg.french-dragoon-l.jpg.ITA6040.jpg.vitoria-dragoons-l.jpg
