90mm horse for Fr. Line Lancer

Hey all,

I am a great fan of the late Richard Almond. I have many of the Almond kits and am purchasing some that I may have already painted in the late 70's and 80's.

I just scored an unopened kit of the French Light Horse Lancer. I painted it by itself way back when but would like to base it with a 90mm horse with appropriate Lancer furniture.

Any thoughts, sources, or other help please?

I like the idea, big time. It is a good project. The only real fly in the soup is the remodelling of the existing horse furniture will most likely require getting rid of the blanket at the rear before doing anything else. I will tell you now that is a pig of a job, and you'll probably lose the will to live part way through.

What may make life easier is to mark out on the blanket where you want the sheepskin to go. Basically I'd use the grenade on the blanket as a marker. If the sheepskin covers that then you've gone way too big and it would never look right. So that means getting rid of the remainder... The horse looks big enough already so beefing up the horse is not an option.

It may be doable to conceal the horse blanket underneath a cloak or a cape or other blanket draped over the rear of the horse. it only has to be big enough to conceal the horse grenadier blanket underneath it. That way you only have to get rid of the lower right hand corner that is nearest the stirrup. So consider sculpting your way out...

It's a David Grieve sculpt, so it will be a real 90mm scale, and should be ideal for your project, Kevin,......good luck, and look forward to seeing the end result

Yep! I think, as far as having the pose that I want.... this may be my best bet..but you're right.... I may go the way of the do-do bird trying to get it done. I don't know which would be more difficult....building new furniture for the Grieve or using the given position of the wrong tack to use as a point of reference for scale and design. I think the latter...… I really like that draped cape thought.

Thank you Alan! For the moment I think my weak sculpting talents might be better used on the other horse option. I will definitely keep yours in mind. I took a quick look on line to remember the pose and it will certainly work if I need to go in tht direction.

FYI Bonaparte's do a grazing horse in 90mm and I think Poste Militaire harnessing for light cavalry is also available from them.

Ahh, you still can't beat the Poste Militaire 90mm's.....I'm working on the French Dragoon at the moment, and the castings from Bonaparte's are still as good as ever they were. Clean, crisp, minimal cleaning up and great fit of parts. IMHO a real compliment to the artistry and design of Ray Lamb .

I'm sure I remember Poste Militaire doing a 90mm Mounted Hussar. Don't know if Bonaparrte bought the moulds for this, but, if they did, I'm sure they'd do a deal, as all the Tack would be available too, and nothing to take off. Ray

Hey Hey Hey! BINGO Ray! I have the Poste Militaire 90mm hussar trumpeter. A friend found it in an estate sale, reasonably painted and got it for me. I stripped it and its ready to go including the furniture which will give me scale and an example to work from. I went ahead and bought the cuirassier horse from Bonaparte today to have the pose, stirrups etc and it is in resin to make conversion a bit easier. This might just come together, thanks all!

These horses are great , I have several.
